Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aqueous polyurethane dispersion having a long storage life, latent curability and improved heat resistance by dispersing a specified polyurethane (mixture) in water. SOLUTION: A polyurethane (A) having groups imparting water dispersibility and C-C double bonds activated by carbonyl groups directly bonded thereto or a mixture (B) comprising a polyurethane (a) having groups imparting water dispersibility and freed from C-C double bonds activated by carbonyl groups directly bonded thereto, a compound (b) other than components A and B, having C-C double bonds activated by carbonyl groups directly bonded thereto and a compound (c) other than components A, B and c, having a plurality of groups selected from among thiol groups, prim. amino groups and sec. amino groups is dispersed in water to obtain an aqueous polyurethane dispersion having a solid content of 10-75wt.% and a viscosity of 10-500mPa.s (at 20 deg.C and a shear rate of 250s .

Abstract: An aqueous dispersion (I) contains a polyurethane having carbodiimide structural units of formula -N=C=N- (1). Also claimed are: (i) a process for the coating of metal, plastic, paper, textile, leather or wooden objects by forming a film of (I) on the surface of the object and drying; (ii) a process for the bonding of metal, plastic, paper, textile, leather or wooden objects by forming a film of (I) on the surface of the object and bringing it together with another object before or after the film of (I); (iii) a process for the impregnation of a metal, plastic, paper, textile, leather or wooden object by forming a film of (I) on the surface of the object by dipping it in (I) and drying; (iv) the resulting coated, bonded or impregnated object.

Abstract: Carbodiimides which are solid at 25 degrees C, containing carbodiimide structures which are attached to non-aromatic carbon atoms, together with urethane and/or urea structures. Independent claims are also included for: (a) a process for the production of these solid carbodiimides from di-isocyanates in which the isocyanate (NCO) groups are not attached to aromatic carbon, by reaction in presence of catalysts to form the carbodiimide with cleavage of carbon dioxide, followed by reaction with compounds containing at least two NCO-reactive groups; (b) another process in which the above stages are reversed and the ratio of NCO groups to NCO-reactive groups used in the first stage is at least 2:1; (c) solid carbodiimides obtained by these processes; (d) mixtures containing compounds with ester units together with these carbodiimides; and (e) mixtures containing these carbodiimides and at least one of the following: polyurethanes with ester units and/or polycondensation products such as polyesters, e.g. polyethylene- or polybutylene- terephthalate, polyether-esters, polyester-esters, polyester-amides, polycaprolactones, unsaturated polyester resins and polyamides.
