Abstract: The invention relates to a thermoplastic polymer mixture containing m, m representing a natural number higher than 1, polymers Pn wherein n represents a natural number between 1 and m, and at least one recurring functional group contained in the Pn polymer chain, said group(s) having the structure -(R )x-C(O)-(R )y- wherein x and y independently represent 0 or 1, and x+y=1, and R , R independently represent oxygen or nitrogen linked into the main polymer chain. The polymers Pn differ in terms of at least one characteristic related to molecular weight. The polymer mixture has a number average molecular weight Mn(P)1, a weight average molecular weight Mw(P)1, a Z average molecular weight Mz(P)1, a heterogeneity index Mw(P)1/Mn(P)1, and a molecular weight Mp(P)1 defined according to DIN 55672-2 in hexafluoroisopropanol as an elution agent. After maintaining the polymer mixture at the melting point of the same, defined according to ISO 11357-1 and 11357-3, for five minutes, the polymer mixture has a number average molecular weight Mn(P)2, a weight average molecular weight Mw(P)2, a Z average molecular weight Mz(P)2, a heterogeneity index Mw(P)2/Mn(P)2, and a molecular weight Mp(P)2 defined according to DIN 55672-2 in hexafluoroisopropanol as an elution agent. Abstract: A thermoplastic polymer mixture (I) of polymers with in-chain functional groups shows a differential distribution curve W(M) (DIN 55672-2) with at least 2 peaks of relative frequency W before and after 5 minutes at the melting point of (I), the peak positions after storage being within 3 times the repeat standard deviation of Mp based on peak positions before storage. A thermoplastic polymer mixture (I) containing m polymers (Pn) with one or more functional groups in the main chain (where m = more than 1 and n = 1-m), in which the differential distribution curve W(M) determined in accordance with DIN 55672-2 using hexafluoroisopropanol as eluant shows at least 2 peaks of relative frequency W before and after storage at the melting point of (I) (determined as in ISO 11357-1 and 11357-3) for 5 minutes, the peak positions after storage being within 3 times the repeat standard deviation (sigma(r)) of Mp as a percentage of the measured value (DIN 55672-2) based on peak positions before storage. Independent claims are also included for (1) a method for the production of (I) from a mixture of solid polymers Pn by melting, mixing and solidifying the mixture; (2) a method for the production of (I) by adding part of polymers Pn in molten or solid form to another part of Pn in molten form, then mixing in the melt and solidifying; and (3) fibres, sheet materials and molded products obtained from (I).

Abstract: A random copolymer (I) of propylene with other 2-10 C 1-alkenes comprises 0.7-1.4 wt.% ethylene comonomer or 0.7-3.0 wt.% 4-10 C 1-alkene. (I) has a solubility in cold xylene of 1.0-2.5 wt.% or 0.75-2.0 wt.% when the comonomer is ethylene or a 4-10C 1-alkene respectively. Independent claims are included for: (i) a process for the preparation of (I) by the gas phase polymerisation of propylene and a 2-10 C 1-alkene at 50-100 degrees C and 15-40 bar in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst containing: (A) a titanium containing solid component containing at least a halogen containing magnesium compound and an electron donor; (B) an aluminum compound; and (C) at least a further electron donor compound. The ratio of partial pressure of propylene to comonomer is 400:1-15:1 and the molar ratio of (B) to (C) is 20:1-2:1; and (ii) film, fiber or molded articles containing (I).
