Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize efficiency in a system and to save system resources by controlling power in a down-link or an up-link in accordance with the quality of first and second channels between a mobile station and base station. SOLUTION: In the case of the down-link in a communication system 8, when the first and second communication channels with the base station 10 are established, the mobile station 30 measures the quality of a service parameter in each channel with a measuring instrument 34, it is compared with previously set prescribed target quality, the difference is adopted as increment updating data to decide control data for controlling down-link transmission power and it is transmitted to the base station 10. The down-link power controller 14 adjusts transmission power by referring to increment offset data based on control data from the mobile station 30. In the case of the up-link. The up-link controller 36 of the mobile station 30 adjusts the transmission power of its own station by control data based on increment updating data from the base station 10 in the same way and executes the same processing as necessary or regularly afterward.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new method for increasing the performance of a wireless communication system by validly managing the assignment of burst transmission. SOLUTION: A mechanism for the early end of burst transmission is provided based on the set of an intelligent reference. A power overload state and an excessive frame error rate(FER) are checked (101 and 102) at the time of deciding the early burst end (104). Also, whether or not the transfer of data is operated beyond an already known time without any burst is checked (103). Thus, system through-put and a data rate can be increased, and a power capacity in a data channel can be maximized. Especially, transmission quality can be maintained, and any power overload and excessive interrupting problem can be solved. A system resource can be validly saved, and further efficiently used as the result.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To well allocate the channel codes by allocating a selected shorter channel code after it's verified that several longer channel codes dependent on the shorter channel code are available for the allocation. SOLUTION: When a longer channel code is required, a 1st channel is selected in a processing block. Then it's decided in a decision block whether or not the selected channel is available. If the selected channel is not available, a list of chip channel codes is searched and the next channel is selected. It's decided again whether or not the next channel is available in the decision block. If the channel is available, the channel is allocated to a user in the processing block. Then the channel is marked unavailable in the processing block.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily expand a cell size or an access range by allowing a base station to instruct handoff based on the absolute route delay information showing the present and past positions of a mobile telephone obtained by signals from the mobile telephone. SOLUTION: The base station 80 is provided with a macro cell 84 and a micro cell 82 having a radius R82 equal to or less than a distance corresponding to the ASIC correlation device bit limitation of a mobile telephone detector. The mobile telephones 86 and 88 measure the pilot signal strength of a first frequency band of the respective base stations and send it to the base station 80. When the signal strength of the first frequency band becomes equal to or less than a threshold, the base station 80 instructs handoff to a second frequency band. In the case that the mobile telephone 86 or 88 can not measure the frequency, the base station 80 detects mobile telephone signals, obtains the absolute route delay information from the arrival time, judges the moving direction of the mobile telephone and instructs when inter-frequency handoff is to be performed. The cell size or the access range is enlarged without re-designing the ASIC correlation device requiring the large amount of costs.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid unnecessary tuning and searching with a new frequency by controlling the hand-off from the frequency of a call under processing to the new frequency by means of a trigger metric that is obtained as a function of total sum of the mean transmission signal/noise ratio measurements. SOLUTION: A processor 36 controls the communication function of a mobile station 12 in cooperation with a memory 38. For instance, the data included in a message forming a part of a receiving signal or other information are supplied to the processor 36 and a process step is executed. Then the electric power and the signal/noise ratio are measured to the receiving signal, and a message is generated, inserted into a transmitting signal and transmitted to one or plural base stations. Then the hand-off is controlled to the new frequency from the present frequency of a call under processing using a trigger metric generated as a function of the total sum of average transmission signal to noise ratio measurements to at least a subset of the average transmission signal to noise ratio measurements to a pilot signal and a plurality of pilot signals.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a peak-to-average ratio and eventually to relieve output reduction of an amplifier by including an orthogonal modulator circuit and a phase rotation circuit connected to the orthogonal modulator circuit, making the phase rotation circuit rotate the phases of an in-phase signal and an orthogonal signal and generating the in-phase signal undergoing phase rotation and the orthogonal signal undergoing phase rotation. SOLUTION: In a CDMA base station, intentional phase rotation (θk ) is introduced between different Walsh channels about the radio user in a baseband signal. A baseband coding/modulating unit 30 offers in-phase and orthogonal phase signals, they are connected to corresponding multipliers 32 and 34 and the multipliers 32 and 34 are connected to a Walsh code for orthogonal modulation. The multipliers 32 and 34 are connected to multipliers 36 and 38 and multipliers 40 and 42 respectively. Outputs of the multipliers 36 and 38 and inverted outputs/outputs of the multipliers 40 and 42 are connected to adders 44 and 46.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the successful rate of soft hand-off by transmitting a message on a second communication channel belonging to a candidate base station and hearing it by a mobile telephone set. SOLUTION: The base station of an active set uses a forward traffic channel and synchronously transmits the copy of an HD message. The candidate base station uses the paging channel of the candidate base station and transmits the HD message with the identification number of the mobile telephone set to the mobile telephone set. At the time of setting up the network connection of soft hand-off, the mobile telephone set moves from a position R to a position R2. At the position R2, the ratio of a signal to noise on the signal transmitted by the base station 26-4 of the active set drops and the ratio of the signal to noise on the signal transmitted by the base station 26-3 increases. At that time, probability that the HD message transmitted from the candidate base station 26-3 is more precisely received compared with the HD message transmitted from the base station 26-4 of the active set becomes higher.

Abstract: The invention provides a novel methodology for increasing the performance of CDMA systems with packet data services by accommodating a variety of users with different rates. The invention operates to increase the spectrum efficiency of a wireless system by using an optimal transmission set of base transceiver stations and assigning proper data rates to efficiently utilize the radio resources. In particular, the invention operates to decrease interference so that the quality of data transmission in CDMA systems is advantageously maintained. Moreover, the invention operates to increase the allocation of bandwidth, particularly for high-speed data services. The invention provides a methodology to evaluate the data rates of different combinations of BTSs that may be in connection with a particular mobile station (MS), allocate an appropriate data rate for the MS and make allocation of system resources more efficient in a multi-user environment.

Abstract: A method that adjusts the power level of a set of forward-link signals of a base station responsive to the loading of the forward link as determined by a power level measurement of the signal set. One power level measurement is a pilot fraction of the forward link. Other power level measurements, such as the signal set's power level, can be used, alone or in combination, instead of or in addition to the pilot fraction of the forward link to adjust the power level of the signal set. The power level of the signal set can be changed in any manner, including by scaling it by a scaling factor, or by increasing the power level by a fixed or a variable amount. The power level measurement of the signal set is obtained during a current time period. The scaling factor that will be used in the subsequent time period is determined using the power level measurement. In one embodiment of the invention, the scaling factor can be obtained from a look-up table that is based on the power level measurement. If the cell containing the base station includes several sectors, the power level of the signal set in a sector is adjusted when the power level measurement in that sector indicates that the power level should be adjusted.

Abstract: An apparatus and method which, in a wireless communication system, improve the quality of inter-frequency hand-offs from an existing call connection frequency to a new frequency by minimizing oscillating inter-frequency hand-offs between the existing call connection frequency and the new frequency, and by minimizing redundant and unnecessary tuning and searching at the new frequency. The present invention accomplishes this improvement by adding specific threshold comparison values (or triggers) within existing messages and through more robust data reporting, from the mobile unit to the base station, when tuning and searching is performed. Particularly, two comparative triggers provided by the present invention avoid unnecessary tuning and searching in the new frequency, thus reducing voice degradation and the risk of dropped calls while pilot searching in the current frequency. Additionally, an alternative embodiment of the present invention compares received power in the new frequency to the received power in the original frequency. If the received power in the new frequency does not exceed the received power in the original frequency by a specified hysteresis threshold value, then a search of the new frequency is unnecessary and the mobile unit "retunes" to the original frequency.
