    Abstract: Propylene/1-alkene copolymers are claimed which are prepd. in a two-stage gas-phase process in a fluidised bed system using a Ziegler-Natta catalyst contg. a Ti solid component and also an Al cpd., the process comprising: (a) effecting a first stage at 20-40/bar and 60-90 deg.C for ave. dwell time 1-5 hrs. so as to give 0.05-2 kg copolymer per mmol. Al cpd., with the ratio of partial pressure of the propylene to that of the 1-alkene being held at 10-500:1, and then (b) effecting further copolymerisation of the first stage prod. at 5-25 bar (but at least 7 bar below the first stage pressures) and 30-80 deg.C for ave. dwell time 1-5 hrs with the ratio of propylene partial pressure to that of the 1-alkene being 0.5-20:1 and with the wt. ratio of monomer converted in the first stage to that converted in the second stage being regulated to 0.5-20:1. The 1-alkene is e.g. ethylene or a higher alkene.

    Abstract: Catalyst systems of the Ziegler-Natta catalyst type, containing, as active constituents, a) a titanium-containing solid component which contains titanium, magnesium, halogen and a carboxylic acid ester, and, as cocatalyst, b) an aluminium compound and c) optionally further electron-donor compounds, characterised in that they contain in the solid component, as the carboxylic acid ester, a diester of a carboxylic acid of the formula Ia or Ib in which R , R , R and R are identical or different and are hydrogen, C1-C15-alkyl, C7-C15-alkylaryl or 5- to 7-membered cycloalkyl, which may itself carry C1- to C10-alkyl groups. These catalyst systems are particularly suitable for the preparation of polypropylene and copolymers of propylene with minor amounts of other alpha , beta -unsaturated olefinic compounds having 2 to 12 carbon atoms.

    Abstract: The invention relates to the preparation of polymers of propene by means of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system comprising (1) a titanium component based on a finely divided, shape-providing silica gel and containing magnesium, chlorine and a benzenecarboxylic acid derivative in addition to titanium, (2) an aluminium component and (3) a silane component, characterised in that a titanium component (1) is used which is obtained by (1.1) first (I) preparing a support material from (Ia) a silica gel, (Ib) an organomagnesium compound and (Ic) a gaseous chlorinating agent by (1.1.1) at first reacting (Ia) with (Ib), (1.1.2) then passing (Ic) into the product from (1.1.1) and isolating (I), (1.2) then preparing a solid-phase intermediate from (I), (II) an alkanol, (III) titanium tetrachloride and (IV) a phthalic acid derivative by (1.2.1) first reacting (I) with (II), (1.2.2) subsequently introducing (III) into the product from (1.2.1), with the proviso that (IV) is also introduced during (1.2.1) or (1.2.2), (1.3) then extracting the solid product from (1.2) with titanium tetrachloride or a mixture of titanium tetrachloride and ethylbenzene, and (1.4) finally washing the solid product from (1.3) with a liquid hydrocarbon.
