Abstract: Process for the recovery of pure, water insoluble alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid esters is carried out in a single step by means of an aqueous base. A process for the recovery of pure, water-insoluble esters of alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids from a mixture containing unreacted carboxylic acids and/or an acid catalyst and optionally a polymerization inhibitor is claimed. The process comprises removal of the impurities in a single extraction step using an aqueous base and separation of the aqueous base and impurities.
