Abstract: The invention relates to ampiphilic compounds and mixtures thereof, methods for production and use thereof in oil-in-water emulsions. The compounds are made up of a lipophilic and a hydrophilic part. Both parts are linked togeth er by means of a linker derived from succinic acid. The lipophilic part is form ed from a polyisobutylene group with a number-average molecular weight Mn of 30 0 to 10000. The hydrophilic part is characterised in preferably having two polyethylene glycol chains which can be produced by reaction of OH, -N(H)- and/or -NH2 with ethylene oxide. A globular non-linear structure for the hydrophilic part is thus achieved, such that the hydrophilic character of sa id compounds predominates and makes the same particularly suitable for oil-in- water emulsions. The invention further relates to preparations for the treatment of metal surfaces, in particular for corrosion protection, comprising at least one said compound, at least one solvent which can dissolve, disperse or emulsify said compound(s) and optionally further components. Furthermore, a method for treatment of metal surfaces by bringin g the metal surface into contact with said preparation and coated metal surfac es are disclosed.

Production of homo- or co-polymers of isobutene involves continuous cationic polymerisation of isobutene or mixtures of isobutene with unsaturated comonomers in the presence of an initiator system comprising (i) a Lewis acid selected from covalent halogen compounds of metals or metalloids, and (ii) aprotic organic compound(s) (I) with functional group(s) (FG) which form carbocations or cationogenic complexes with (i) under polymerisation conditions, in an organic solvent which is inert towards (i). An Independent claim is included for a tubular flow reactor used in the above polymerisation method, including several bends in alternating directions.

Abstract: Production of polyalkenyl succinimide products (I) by reacting a polyalkene with maleic acid, maleic anhydride or a functional derivative thereof and reacting the resulting polyalkenyl succinic anhydride (II) with an oligo- or polyamine (III). Production of polyalkenyl succinimide products (I) by reacting a polyalkene with maleic acid, maleic anhydride or a functional derivative thereof and reacting the resulting polyalkenyl succinic anhydride (II) with an oligo- or polyamine (III) comprises either (a) reacting (II) with an alcohol or phenol and reacting the product (not isolated) with (III); or (b) reacting (II) with (III) in the presence of an alcohol or phenol; and (c) optionally removing the alcohol or phenol.
