Abstract: The use of polymers (I) as biocides is new, where (I) comprises: (a) 0.1-100 mol. % vinylamine (VA) or ethyleneimine units; (b) 0-99.9 mol.% units derived from at least one monomer selected from N-vinylcarboxamides of formula CH2=CH-N(R1)-CO-R2 (II), vinyl formate, vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, vinyl alcohol, (1-6C) alkyl-vinyl ethers, monoethylenically unsaturated 3-8C carboxylic acids, or their esters, nitriles, amides and anhydrides, N-vinylurea, N-vinylimidazoles and N-vinylimidazolines; and (c) 0-5 mol.% units derived from monomers with at least two ethylenically unsaturated double bonds. The sum of (a)-(c) is 100 mol.%. R1, R2 = H or 1-6C alkyl.

Abstract: The present invention relates to starch which is modified with at least one cationic polymer (P), and a method for producing same which is characterized in that: a) an anionically modified starch (A) is reacted with the cationic polymer (P); or that (b) a native starch (B) or a non-anionically modified starch (C) is reacted with the cationic polymer (P) in the presence of an anionic modifier (M). The invention also relates to the use of said polymermodified starches.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of water-soluble copolymers consisting of such characteristic structural elements as a) acrylic acid amide of the general formula (I), where R1 et R2 stand, independently of each other, for H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl, and b) units of the general formula (II), where A represents a chemical bond or an alkyl group, the R3 residues stand, independently of each other, for H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or arakyl or, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are linked, an aromatic or non aromatic five to seven member heterocyclic ring, possibly mono- or polysubstituted, possibly containing one or two more heteroatoms chosen from among O, N or S, and capable of being annelated with another aromatic or non aromatic five to seven member ring, and R4 represents H, alkyl or aralkyl. The invention also pertains to cosmetics containing said polymers.
