    Abstract: A process for the production of polyacetals by the copolymerisation of glyoxylic acid esters with cyclic formals derived from dioles, homopolymers of formaldehyde, trioxepane or mixture of these compounds, in which up to 50 wt % of this group of monomers may be replaced by other conventional copolymerisable monomers like epoxides, aldehydes with at least 2 C atoms, tetrahydrofurane and/or C2 to C4 olefines, in the presence of anionic or cationic polymerisation initiators and possibly the hydrolysis of the glyoxyl acid esters polymerised into the copolymer, use of the polyacetal carboxylates thus obtainable as an additive in low-phosphate and phosphate-free washing and cleaning agents, as a water treatment agent and as a dispersant for finely divided substances, and polyacetals which are obtainable by the anionically or cationically initiated copolymerisation of glyoxyl acid esters with cyclic formals derived from diols and possibly the introduction of stable final groups and possibly hydrolysis of the ester groups of the glyoxyl acid esters polymerised into the copolymers.

    Abstract: Polyacetals containing units of formula (I), wherein R stands for H, C1-C4 alkyl or COOM, where M stands for a C1-C4 alkyl, alkali metal, ammonium and alkanolamine group, and m = 0 to 9, with K-values (determined by the H. Fikentscher method on the sodium salt in a 1 wt. % aqueous solution at 25 DEG C and pH 7) of at least 8.5. Method of preparing the polyacetals by polymerization of compounds of formula (II), wherein R stands for H, C1-C4 alkyl or COOM, where M stands for a C1-C4 alkyl, alkali metal, ammonium and alkanolamine group, R stands for C1-C4 alkyl and m = 0 to 9, in the presence of initiators and possibly comonomers, and, possibly, hydrolysis of the ester groups of the polymers. Use of the polyacetals as additives in washing and cleaning agents.

    Abstract: Surface coating binders which contain tertiary amino groups, blocked isocyanate groups, hydroxyl groups and ether groups and are water-soluble or water-dispersible as a result of partial or complete salt formation with an acid are prepared by copolymerization of a mixture comprising (A) an olefinically unsaturated compound which contains a tertiary amino group, (B) an N-(1-alkenyl)-isocyanate which is blocked with a CH-, OH- or NH-acidic blocking agent and (C) an adduct of an epoxy resin based on bisphenol A and epichlorohydrin, and an olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid of 3 to 20 carbon atoms, a secondary amine and, if required, a saturated monocarboxylic acid of 1 to 20 carbon atoms, with or without one or more copolymerizable, olefinically unsaturated compounds not mentioned under (A), (B) and (C). These surface coating binders are particularly useful as self-crosslinking or externally crosslinking binders for the cathodic electrocoating of metal articles.
