Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a C13 alcohol mixture, according to which a) a stream of C4 hydrocarbon containing butenes, which includes less than 5 % by weight of iso-butene in relation to the butene fraction, is brought into contact with a heterogeneous catalyst containing a nickel at a raised temperature, b) a C12 olefin fraction is isolated from the reaction mixture, c) the C12 olefin fraction is hydroformulated by being reacted with carbon dioxide and hydrogen in the presence of a cobalt catalyst and d) is hydrated. The alcohol mixture thus obtained is suitable for producing surfactants by alkoxylation, glycosidation, sulphation, phosphation, alkoxylation and subsequent sulphation or alkoxylation and subsequent phosphation.

Abstract: Oligomerization of 2-8C olefins in a sequence of \- 2 reaction zones is such that the volume of Ni-containing catalyst in each zone is set so that the difference between the temperature rises experienced by the feed in two zones is no more than 20 deg C. Oligomerization of 2-8C olefins comprises passing an olefin-containing hydrocarbon stream through a sequence of \- 2 adiabatically-operated reaction zones over a heterogeneous Ni-containing catalyst so that the stream experiences a temperature increase delta Treact in each zone and such that the stream enters the first zone at Tin and, prior to entering each subsequent zone, is cooled to Tin +/- 20 deg C. The relative catalyst volume in each zone is such that the difference in delta Treact between two zones is at most 20 deg C. An Independent claim is also included for a process comprising: (i) passing the olefin-containing hydrocarbon stream over a first zone over a heterogeneous Ni-containing catalyst; (ii) separating off the oligomers formed and dividing the hydrocarbon stream into two sub-streams (Ia) and (Ib); (iii) recycling sub-stream (Ia) to the first zone and passing (Ib) to a second zone containing the catalyst; (iv) separating off the oligomers from the product of the second zone and dividing the stream into sub-streams (IIa) and (IIb); and (v) recycling (IIa) to the second zone and taking (IIb) out of the process, the ratios (Ia)/(Ib) and (IIa)/(IIb) being such that the oligomer concentration in the reaction mixture does not exceed 30 wt.% in any zone.

Abstract: The mixture described is a mixture of isomeric nonanol diesters of a dicarboxylic acid, selected from the class consisting of a mixture of diesters of adipic acid in the 1H NMR spectrum of which, observed in CDCl3, the ratio of the area under the resonance signals at chemical shifts in the range from 1.0 to 2.0 ppm with respect to TMS to the area under the resonance signals at chemical shifts in the range from 0.5 to 1.0 ppm with respect to TMS is from 1.20 to 5.00 and a mixture of diesters of phthalic acid, in the 1H NMR spectrum of which, observed in CDCl3, the ratio of the area under the resonance signals at chemical shifts in the range from 1.1 to 3.0 ppm with respect to TMS to the area under the resonance signals at chemical shifts in the range from 0.5 to 1.1 ppm with respect to TMS is from 1.00 to 4.00.The diesters of adipic and phthalic acid are suitable as plasticizers for PVC-based molding compositions and have high compatibility, a low cold crack temperature, low torsional rigidity and/or high thermal stability.

Abstract: The invention describes a process for the preparation of surfactant alcohols and surfactant alcohol ethers which are, inter alia, highly suitable as surfactants or for the preparation of surfactants. The process, starting from olefin mixtures having a defined minimum content of linear hexenes, gives mixtures having a predominant fraction of branched dodecenes, which are subsequently derivatized to give surfactant alcohols and then optionally alkoxylated. The surfactant alcohol mixture obtained in the process has a degree of branching of from 2.0 to 3.0 and in particular exhibits advantageous properties as regards ecotoxicity and biodegradability. A description is also given of the use of the surfactant alcohols and surfactant alcohol ethers as surfactants by glycosidation or polyglycosidation, sulfation or phosphation.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing alcohol surfactants and alcohol ether surfactants which are inter alia suitable as surfactants or for producing surfactants. According to the inventive method, olefinic mixtures with a defined minimum content of linear hexene mixtures with a prevailing amount of branched dodecenes are produced which are converted to alcohol surfactants and are then optionally alkoxylated. The alcohol surfactant mixture obtained by the inventive method is characterized by a branching degree of 2.0 to 3.0 and has specifically advantageous properties in terms of its ecotoxicity and biodegradability. The invention further relates to the use of the alcohol surfactants and alcohol ether surfactants as surfactants by glycosidation or polyglycosidation, sulfation or phosphatization.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing novel surfactant alcohols and surfactant alcohol ethers by derivatising olefins with approximately 10 to 20 C-atoms or mixtures of such olefins to produce alkanols and optionally, subsequently alkoxylating them. The method is characterised in that a C4-olefin-mixture is subjected to metathesis, the resulting olefins are dimerised and then derivatised to produce surfactant alcohols, and these are optionally alkoxylated. The olefin mixture obtained from dimerisation contains a large proportion of branched components and less than 10 wt. % of compounds containing a vinylidene group. The invention also relates to the use of surfactant alcohols and surfactant alcohol ethers for producing surfactants by glycosylation or polyglycosylation, sulphation or phosphation.
