Abstract: For the preparation of elastic flexible polyurethane foams with improved breaking elongation and very good setting behavior as well as densities from 7 to 120 grams per liter, organic polyisocyanates are reacted in the presence of blowing agents, catalysts and, optionally, auxiliaries and/or additives with polyols based on polyoxyalkylene polyols having terminal oxyethylene blocks of a degree of oxyethlation of 1 to 13 and which have a content of primary hydroxyl groups at the corresponding degree of oxyethylation equal or exceeding the value of curve A in the Figure in which curve A describing the relationship of the content of primary hydroxyl groups with the degree of oxyethylation.

Abstract: Elastic, radiation-crosslinked polyurethane foams are obtained by reacting organic polyisocyanates, polyols and acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid derivatives containing at least one bonded Zerewitinoff-active hydrogen atom, preferably adducts of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid and epoxides in a carboxyl:epoxide group ratio of approximately 1:1, in the presence of blowing agents, catalysts and optionally auxiliaries and additives, and subsequently irradiating the foams with electrons at an acceleration voltage of at least 50 kV and a maximum dosage of 1000 kJ/kg.

Abstract: A process for coating electrically conductive objects comprising A. immersing said object as the anode of an electric current in an aqueous polyurethane dispersion prepared by (1) forming a polyurethane solution by reacting an organic polyisocyanate in the presence of an organic solvent with (a) an acrylic ester diol having a molecular weight of between 146 and 3,000; (b) an organic polyhydroxyl compound other than (a) having a molecular weight between 400 and 5,000 selected from the group consisting of polyester, polyols, polyether polyols, polycarbonates, polylactones, and mixtures thereof; and (c) a chain extender selected from the group consisting of diols, triols, diamines, aminoalcohols, having a molecular weight between 62 and 400, water, and mixtures thereof; (2) forming an anionic polyurethane addition product by reacting said polyurethane solution with a mercaptocarboxylic acid salt in the presence of a solvent; (3) adding water; and (4) removing the organic solvent, and B. passing an electric current between the anode and a cathode which is also dispersed in said dispersion, and C. irradiating said object with ultraviolet radiation or electron rays. The process can be used for coating metals such as iron, steel and aluminum.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of polymerizable, primarily linear thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers with acrylate side groups comprising reacting an organic polyisocyanate with a mixture of (a) an acrylate diol having a molecular weight of 146 to 3000, (b) an organic polyhydroxyl compound other than those of paragraph (a) having a molecular weight between 400 and 5000, and (c) a chain extender selected from the group consisting of diols, diamines, aminoalcohols, and triols, having molecular weights between 61 and 400, water, and mixtures thereof wherein the ratio of isocyanate to active hydrogen containing groups is from 0.8:1 to 1.2:1 and wherein 1.4 to 1.8 moles of organic polyisocyante, 0 to 15 moles of component (c) and 0.3 to 6 moles of component (a) are used per mole of component (b). The polymerizable polyurethane elastomers may be used for the manufacture of molded parts, laminates, adhesives, coatings, magnetic tapes, and other articles.

Abstract: Acylphosphine oxide compounds of the general formula where R1 is alkyl, cyclohexyl, cyclopentyl, aryl which is unsubstituted or substituted by halogen, alkyl or alkoxy, or an S-containing or N-containing five-membered or six-membered heterocyclic radical, R2 has one of the meanings of R1 (but R1 and R2 may be identical or different) or is alkoxy, aryloxy or aralkoxy, or R1 and R2 together form a ring and R3 is an at least disubstituted phenyl, pyridyl, furyl or thienyl radical which carries, at least at the two carbon atoms adjacent to the linkage point of the carbonyl group, the substituents A and B, which may be identical or different, and each of which is alkyl, alkoxy or alkylthio of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 5 to 7 carbon atoms, phenyl or halogen, or R3 is alpha -naphthyl substituted by A and B at least in the 2- and 8-positions or is beta -naphthyl substituted by A and B at least in the 1- and 3-positions, a process for the preparation of these acylphosphine oxide compounds from acid halides of the general formula where X is chlorine or bromine, and a phosphine of the general formula and the use of these acylphosphine oxide compounds as photoinitiators in photopolymerizable surface coatings, finishes and printing inks.

Abstract: The invention relates to polyurea-polyol dispersions with a long shelf life which contain a) from 2 to 35 % by weight, based on the entire dispersion, of a polyurea prepared from modified aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic polyisocyanates and aliphatic amines and/or optionally substituted monoaminobenzenes or modified aromatic polyisocyanates and aliphatic amines and, b) from 98 to 65 % by weight, based on the entire dispersion, of a bifunctional to hexafunctional polyol having a hydroxyl number of from 20 to 600. The dispersions are prepared by in-situ reaction of the modified polyisocyanates with aliphatic amines and/or monoaminobenzenes in polyols, have, at a polyurea content of 10 % by weight, a viscosity at 25 DEG C of from 1000 to 2500 mPa.s and a clear point of from 100 to 300 DEG C and are particularly suitable for the production of polyurethane foams.
