    Abstract: A process for the preparation of polymerizable, primarily linear thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers with acrylate side groups comprising reacting an organic polyisocyanate with a mixture of (a) an acrylate diol having a molecular weight of 146 to 3000, (b) an organic polyhydroxyl compound other than those of paragraph (a) having a molecular weight between 400 and 5000, and (c) a chain extender selected from the group consisting of diols, diamines, aminoalcohols, and triols, having molecular weights between 61 and 400, water, and mixtures thereof wherein the ratio of isocyanate to active hydrogen containing groups is from 0.8:1 to 1.2:1 and wherein 1.4 to 1.8 moles of organic polyisocyante, 0 to 15 moles of component (c) and 0.3 to 6 moles of component (a) are used per mole of component (b). The polymerizable polyurethane elastomers may be used for the manufacture of molded parts, laminates, adhesives, coatings, magnetic tapes, and other articles.

    Abstract: In the parent specification (DT 22 51 433), a UV-curable printing ink, contg. the usual dyes, pigments, polymerisation inhibitors and/or auxiliaries, has a binder mixt. of (A) resin(s) soluble in organic solvents, (B) and unsatd. cpd. with at least 2 polymerisable olefinic bonds, (C) other ole-finicially unsatd. comonomer(s) which can polymerise with (B) and (D) photoinitiator(s); the (B) mol. contains at least 2 gps. of the formula CH2=CR-CO-NH (in which R is H or Me); the binder contains 30-75 (wt.)% (A), 5-55% (B), 5-50% (C) and 1-35% (D); and (C) and (D) have a b.pt. >180 degrees C (at normal pressure). In the new ink, the binder comprises 5-30, pref. 10-25% (A), 30-80, pref. 35-65% (B), 5-50, pref. 10-30% (C) and 1-35, pref. 6-20% (D). The ink gives better results in high speed (letterpress) printing than the ink with a higher resin content. In particular, there is a considerable redn. in the picking tendency.

    Abstract: Curable coating agents, a process for the production of scratch-resistant coatings on plastics, and articles coated by this process. The coating agents are polycondensates of a reaction product, containing two or more carbon-carbon double bonds and one or more hydroxyl or alkoxy groups per molecule, obtained from an olefinically unsaturated silane containing 2 or more hydroxyl or alkoxy groups, whose olefinically unsaturated organic radical is bonded via a C-Si bond, and a hydroxyl-containing alpha , beta -olefinically unsaturated monomer, an olefinically unsaturated silane of the general formula R1-Si(OR2)3 where R1 is a vinyl radical or an alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate radical bonded to the Si atom via a C-Si bond and R2 is hydrogen or a saturated hydrocarbon radical, and a saturated silane of the general formula where R3 and R4 are saturated or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals, with or without an epoxide-containing silane which also contains hydroxyl or alkoxy groups; the polycondensate may additionally contain an olefinically unsaturated reaction product of acrylic or methacrylic acid and a polyalcohol or polyether-ol. The coating agent is used to produce scratch-resistant coatings on the surface of plastics.

    Abstract: Printing ink binders claimed in the Parent Patent contain (A) 30-75 wt.% resin soluble in organic solvents, (B) 5-55% at least one di-olefinic monomer, (C) 5-50% at least one olefinic co-monomer, and (D) 1-35% photo-polymersn. initiator. (B) contains at least 2 gps. per mol of formula CH2=CR-CONH-, (in which R is H or methyl), and (C) and (D) boil at over 180 degrees C Addnl. proportions claimed are 5-30 wt.% (A), 30-80% (B), 5-50% (C) and 1-35% (D). The binders are improved by >=60 wt.% of (C) being a reactive diluent of formula CH2=CR1-COOCH2CH(OH)CH2OR2OCH2CH(OH)CH20CO-CR1=CH2, (in which R1 is H, methyl or cyano, and R2 is a 1-8C bivalent gp, opt. contg. O and N. Smell is negligible, life of rubber printing rollers is not affected, and toxicity and skin irritation are substantially reduced. Pref. 100% of (C) is a reaction product of a diglycidyl ether of an aliphatic 2-6C diol or a 4-6C oxa-alkylene diol, with 1 mol (meth)acrylic acid per epoxide gp. Esp. pref. is the reaction product of butane diol diglycidyl ether with 2 mols acrylic acid. Amount of (C) in the binder mixt. is pref.
