Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid polymer electrolyte battery by containing lithium salt and organic non-proton solvent in electrolyte and preparing organic non- proton solvent solution by specified amounts of ethylene carbonate, propylene carbonate and gamma butyloractone. SOLUTION: A polymer spacer 20 joins and seals the exposed peripheral edge of a polymer sheet 22, and forms a cavity for completely surrounding and enveloping a lithium foil negative electrode 14, an electrolyte film 16 and a positive electrode 18. For the electrolyte film 16, polyacrylonitrile is used, and electrolyte made of lithium salt solution and non-proton organic solvent is dispersed in the matrix of a polymer binder. For forming the positive electrode 18, a carbon such as manganese dioxide, activated charcoal, or carbon black is introduced to the solution of an electrolyte film material using polyacrylonitrile as a base. The positive electrode contains about 50 to 70 wt.% of manganese dioxide and about 2 wt.% of carbon in a capsule sealing matrix.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a primary lithium battery, which is particularly suited for use in a built-in self-powered portable device(SSPD) for a mobile communications and arithmetic unit, such as a radio-frequency identification tag, a PCMCIA card, or a smart card. SOLUTION: A battery 10 has a flexible and compact structure and preferably uses a solid-polymer electrolyte film 16, having a polyacrylonitrile matrix. The performance of the electrolyte film is optimized by controlling the amount of an aprotic organic solvent in the electrode film within the range of specified proportions. Thus, the performance characteristic of the battery almost approximates that of a conventional electrolyte but without safety problems related to the danger of electrolyte leakage, and shows increased performance at low ambient temperatures. The negative electrode of the battery is encapsulated in a polymer matrix and this excludes the danger of exposure caused by an in-lithium compound used in the negative electrode.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new kind of high polymer material having a lowered dielectric constant, properly applicable to an electric assembly using a small semiconductor element recently developed. SOLUTION: This high polymer material is formed by forcing a polymer having a low dielectric constant into contact with liquid or supercritical carbon dioxide under a thermodynamic condition to maintain the carbon dioxide in a liquid or supercritical state. Thereby, a porous product is formed. Subsequently, the high polymer material having a substantially lowered dielectric constant can be obtained by changing the thermodynamic condition to a working environment wherein the carbon dioxide escapes from fine holes and is replaced with air.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for fabricating a metal/insulator/metal capacitor(MIM cap) structure in a semiconductor substrate efficiently at low cost. SOLUTION: A metal oxide layer 18 is formed on a deposited underlying metal layer 16 using an anode oxidation procedure, a second metal 20 is deposited thereon and planarized by chemical mechanical polishing or other procedure to fabricate a metal/insulator/metal capacitor structure in a semiconductor substrate. This process is not a conventional etching process for forming a capacitor structure but an extra process. This process is applicable to the field of damascene structure and can be used for forming a variety of capacitor structures while decreasing the number of mask layers required for formation.
