Abstract: A process for applying a two-tone color effect coating to a substrate including applying an accent powder basecoating composition including film-forming material; reaction product as described herein; flow control agent; and first color effect additive, to a first predetermined portion of a surface of a substrate; at least partially curing the accent basecoating; applying a main liquid or powder basecoating composition having a different color effect additive to a second predetermined portion of the substrate, such that a portion of the accent basecoat is not contacted by the main basecoating composition; at least partially curing the main basecoating composition; applying a topcoating composition over the accent basecoat and main basecoat and curing the resulting composite coating, such that the first portion of the substrate has a different color effect than the second portion of the substrate to provide a two-tone color effect coated substrate.

Abstract: A method for coating an article with a layer of coating material. The article is first cooled to a temperature lower than the freezing point of a chlorofluoro ethane. Then there is prepared a suspension of said chlorofluoro ethane as a suspending medium with coating particles of the coating material dispersed therein, the particles being insoluble in the chlorofluoro ethane. The suspension is kept at a temperature higher than the freezing point of chlorofluoro ethane, and the article is immersed in said suspension so as to form a frozen layer of the suspension on the surface of the article by freezing of the chlorofluoro ethane. The article is taken out of the suspension and the chlorofluoro ethane contained in the frozen layer is removed by heating the article at a temperature higher than the boiling point of the chlorofluoro ethane to leave a layer of particles on the article. The article is then further heated so that the particles remaining on the surface of the article form a layer of the coating material on the article.

Abstract: A temperature-responsive hydrophilic-hydrophobic conversion surface has a surface property that is hydrophobic at a low temperature and is converted to be hydrophilic when the temperature rises. Accordingly, by applying the conversion surface to the fins of a heat exchanger, frost formation can be delayed in a low temperature environment due to the hydrophobicity, and remaining meltwater can be easily dried due to the conversion of the surface from hydrophobic to hydrophilic when the temperature is raised for defrosting. Therefore, the surface property of the fins of a heat exchanger is automatically converted according to the temperature and exhibits only favorable advantages at respective temperatures, so that heat transfer performance and power efficiency of the heat exchange can be effectively improved.

Abstract: An anticorrosive coating includes a first curable liquid layer to the associated substrate, the first layer having a thickness of at least about 100 micrometers, wherein the first layer includes at least one polymer or at least one monomer, quasi-one-dimensional particles or quasi-two-dimensional particles, sacrificial metal particles, and a solvent, wherein a percolation threshold of the particles is not reached in the presence of the solvent, wherein the percolation threshold of the particles is reached when between about 1% and about 20% of the solvent evaporates, applying a second curable liquid layer having a thickness of at least 100 micrometers on the top of the first layer after the percolation threshold of the particles is reached and viscosity of the first layer increases more than 50%, and allowing the first layer and the second layer to cure simultaneously.
