An indicating instrument includes a transparent dial plate, a printed circuit board disposed behind the dial plate, a drive unit disposed behind the printed circuit board having a plurality of lead wires soldered to the printed circuit board, a light conductive luminous pointer and a light emitting diode disposed on the printed circuit board near a rotary shaft so that the pointer can receive light emitted from the light emitting diode. Each end of the plurality of lead wires is disposed on the printed circuit board at a distance from the light emitting diode sufficient to insulate the light emitting diode from heat of soldering the plurality of lead wires to the circuit board.

A microwave circuit comprises a printed circuit board (PCB) on which is fabricated a circuit including passive components such as filters (40) formed by printed conductive patterns. In order to enhance the performance of the circuit, selected components such as filters are made with a greater precision on substrate material (41), such as alumina, having a higher dielectric constant than that of the printed circuit board material. The finished component is mounted on the printed circuit board and the conductive pattern is connected by wire bonds (48, 50) to microstrip tracks (51) of the printed circuit board.

A multi-layer printed circuit board provides at least two sections thereon. One section has a grouping of high-impedance traces and another adjacent section, separated by a dividing line, has a mainly low-impedance signal traces. The high-impedance section has at least one of a ground and power plane separated from a grouping of central layers, containing the high-impedance traces, by at least one empty or “void” layer. The void layer is likewise filled by the ground and power planes in the within low-impedance section by stepping the ground/power plane inwardly toward the central layers while providing another low-impedance signal trace in the layer above and below the respective ground and power planes. In a preferred embodiment there are at least nine layers of circuit board material with high-impedance traces on a central grouping of at least three central board layers with three layers disposed respectively above and below the central board layers.

An isolated converter with a reduced size is disclosed. A small-sized multilayer sheet transformer includes a multilayer circuit board composed of a plurality of sheet substrates, coil patterns of primary and secondary coils disposed coaxially on the sheet substrates, and a core member disposed in a coil pattern unit formed of the coil patterns. In this multilayer sheet transformer, a coil pattern formed on the outer surface of the top layer and a coil pattern formed on the outer surface of the bottom layer are for the same coil on either the primary or secondary side. In the case where the coil patterns formed on the outer surfaces of the top and bottom layers of the multilayer sheet transformer are for the primary coil, an isolation gap is formed between the multilayer sheet transformer and a circuit on the secondary side to prevent an electrical breakdown between the primary and secondary sides. In the case where the coil patterns formed on the outer surfaces of the top and bottom layers of the multilayer sheet transformer are for the secondary coil, an isolation gap is formed between the multilayer sheet transformer and a circuit on the primary side to prevent an electrical breakdown between the primary and secondary sides.

A compact, economical and fast battery charger for Ni-CAD and Ni-MH batteries turns a current source into a controlled voltage source which keys off a signal representative of the voltage level of the battery during the charging process and turns the current source ON and OFF to assure that the battery during the charging process does not exceed a given voltage level. The apparatus includes in par a ballasting resistor in series with the battery to compensate for the low resistance of the battery and an open collector voltage comparator which establishes high and low voltage set points for turning the current source ON and OFF at the appropriate times. The method and apparatus includes a visual display responsive to a signal which produces on the visual display an indication of the state of charge of the battery during a charging cycle. A circuit board has a long U-shaped trace extending around a notch in the board, on each side of each is mounted on battery. The printed circuit board has a trimming resistor arrangement which allows for trimming to be done using a drill.

A wiring substrate equipped with a rerouted wiring having one end connected to an electronic-part mounting pad for electrically connecting an electronic part and another end connected to an external-connection terminal. In the wiring substrate, a low-elasticity underlayer made of a material having a lower modulus of elasticity than that of a base material of the wiring substrate is disposed between the base material of the wiring substrate and each of the electronic-part mounting pad and the rerouted wiring. A method of manufacturing the wiring substrate and a semiconductor device using the wiring substrate are also disclosed.

The signal transmission flat cable provided includes a first layer of substrate membrane, a second layer of a plurality of parallel traces for transmitting the signal, a third layer of finger array and a fourth layer of thin polyester membrane. The third layer of finger array covers the second layer. The fourth layer of thin polyester membrane is used to protect the second layer and third layer. The signal transmission flat cable is characterized in that the plurality of finger arrays are provided in the third layer at a plurality of predetermined locations along the flat cable and each of the plurality of finger arrays is spaced from each other by a given distance. A glue material is provided to bond the fourth layer and the second layer along the given distance. As a result, the flat cable has the module capability by which an user may cut away the excess portion of the flat cable depending on different requirement, such that the remaining portion of the flat cable may be inserted into the keyboard socket on the motherboard of a computer.
