Abstract:
An interferometer includes a resonant cavity having a movable mirror and at least one fiber optic component acting as a fixed mirror. A surface of the fiber optic component is coated with a reflective film. An actuator is coupled to the movable mirror, such that when a scattered optical beam is coupled to the cavity, interference occurs between the surface of the fiber optic component coated with reflective film and a surface of the movable mirror facing the surface of the fiber optic component coated with reflective film. The reflective film on the surface of the fiber optic component causes closely spaced spectral lines within the scattered optical beam to be suitably resolved.

A contamination detector in accordance with one embodiment of the invention includes a plasma generation system operable to direct an atmospheric plasma discharge towards a surface. The contamination detector further includes a light capture system to capture light generated by interaction of the atmospheric plasma discharge with the surface. The light capture system guides the captured light to an optical detection system configured to detect a contaminant.
Abstract:
A differential imaging colorimeter system and method which utilizes a RGB color camera to provide accurate differential colorimetry which can be employed as a portable, dedicated, offline system. The system utilizes a portable processor such as a laptop computer, a hand-held imaging head comprising a color camera, a lens, a plurality of white LED lights, a base plate defining an imaging region, housed in an opaque cover, wherein the imaging head provides a RGB video image to the portable processor; and a software program loaded on the portable processor for applying a geometric transform on an image obtained with the imaging head to match a stored reference image. The computer calculates differential colorimetry values to compare current images with a stored reference image.
Abstract:
In accordance with the description, electronic color matching apparatus with a display of multiple independently controllable segments enable a user to visually compare, capture, catalog and disseminate color as tangible information. In one embodiment, the invention provides an accurate color display representation of a color by means of a novel color screen that is also capable of hundreds of shade adjustments of the overall RGB color component levels until an exact color Hue is displayed. Such a novel color screen of this invention may be designated as an RGBH screen or display device. (Red, Green, Blue, Hue)
Abstract:
A device comprising an illumination means and a light sensing means, that can examine and memorize a discrete color of an object based on the magnitude of the reflected light bouncing off of the colored surface in at least three areas of the electromagnetic spectrum. The device also provides output as a visually and/or audibly perceptible signal for deciphering the color. The color range identified by the device is not limited to the visible spectrum and may include infra-red and ultra-violet light. A storage means for memorizing colors may also be included in the device. Applications of ColorStick technology may include children's toys, aids for the visually handicapped (e.g. blind or color blind individuals), designers, internet shoppers, gardeners, etc.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, the disclosure relates to a method including: collecting photons from the sample having a plurality of regions to form a sample optical data set; selectively transmitting a first portion of the optical data set through a first of a plurality of apertures of an electro-optical shutter, each of the plurality of apertures optically communicating a portion of the optical data set; geometrically conforming the first portion of the optical data set for communication with a spectrometer opening; processing the conformed first portion of the optical data set at the spectrometer to obtain a spectrum for a first of the plurality of sample regions.
Abstract:
Optical characteristic measuring systems and methods such as for determining the color or other optical characteristics of an object are disclosed. Perimeter receiver fiber optics are spaced apart from a source fiber optic and receive light from the surface of the object being measured. Light from the perimeter fiber optics pass to a variety of filters. The system utilizes the perimeter receiver fiber optics to determine information regarding the height and angle of the probe with respect to the object being measured. Under processor control, the optical characteristics measurement may be made at a predetermined height and angle. Various color spectral photometer arrangements are disclosed. Translucency, fluorescence, gloss and/or surface texture data also may be obtained. Audio feedback may be provided to guide operator use of the system. The probe may have a removable or shielded tip for contamination prevention. A method of producing prostheses based on measured data also is disclosed. Measured data also may be stored and/or organized as part of a data base.
Abstract:
A direct-view handheld binocular spectrometer for use in a variety of educational settings. The device comprises a holographic transmission diffraction grating and a uniquely curved quantitative wavelength scale for viewing visible-wavelength spectra with both eyes simultaneously. A variable width entrance slit, adjustable illumination for the wavelength scale, and attachable corrective lenses enhance the ease of use and efficiency as compared to traditional monocular spectrometers.
