Abstract:
A method of stripping, prepping and coating a surface includes first stripping the exiting coating from a surface, using continuous or pulsed fluid jet, followed by prepping the surface by the same fluid jet. The method also provides entraining particles into a fluid stream, if desired to generate a particle-entrained fluid stream that is directed at the surface to be stripped and prepped. The particles act as abrasive particles for prepping the surface to a prescribed surface roughness required for subsequent application of a coating to the surface. The method then entails coating the surface by electrically charging particles having the same chemical composition as the particles used to prep the surface. Finally, a charged-particle-entrained fluid stream is directed at high speed at the charged surface to coat the surface. The particles form both mechanical and electronic bonds with the surface.

Abstract:
Purge method and apparatus for a manual spray gun or coating material application device, in which purge air is introduced into the device through a handgrip portion that is manually held during a coating operation. Purge air first enters the coating material flow path after the purge air enters the handgrip portion.
Abstract:
Acoustic insulation comprising tuned resonant absorbers to absorb sound energy and prevent it from being emitted and a method of installation of the acoustic insulation. The acoustic insulation is preferably placed or sprayed by a thermal spray process. The resonant absorbers are strategically placed in the placed or thermally sprayed material to maximize sound absorption. Discrete mass absorbers may be sealed or left open.
Abstract:
A selectively configurable spray gun may include a gun body comprising a selectable forward section and a rearward section. The rearward section may be connected with either of two or more selectable forward sections so as to selectively configure the spray gun to operate either with a dense phase powder supply configuration or a with dilute phase powder supply configuration. The rearward section may include a selectable powder flow path that is connectable at an inlet end to a source of dense phase powder and at an outlet end to a selectable spray nozzle in the selectable forward section that may optionally include a diffuser. An adapter may be used to connect the rearward section with a selectable spray nozzle or air cap. A manual spray gun embodiment is also presented. A selectively configurable spray gun for use with a dense phase powder supply may include a smaller diameter powder tube that extends through a larger diameter powder tube.
Abstract:
Spraying apparatus and methods that employ multiple nozzle structures for producing multiple sprays of particles, e.g., nanoparticles, for various applications, e.g., pharmaceuticals, are provided. For example, an electrospray dispensing device may include a plurality of nozzle structures, wherein each nozzle structure is separated from adjacent nozzle structures by an internozzle distance. Sprays of particles are established from the nozzle structures by creating a nonuniform electrical field between the nozzle structures and an electrode electrically isolated therefrom.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A spraying device for producing a spray of particles in a carrier gas at ambient pressure, includes a storage volume for a liquid substance; at least one nozzle having an inlet and an outlet, the nozzle inlet fluidly communicating with the storage volume; a counter electrode; an electric supply coupled between the at least one nozzle and counter electrode for providing a first potential and create a first electric field between the nozzle outlet and the counter electrode. The device further includes at least one discharge electrode coupled to the electric supply for providing a second potential between the discharge electrode and the counter electrode, the polarity of the second potential being opposite to the polarity of the first potential. The at least one nozzle and the at least one discharge electrode are arranged adjacent and parallel to each other and facing the counter electrode from a substantially same direction.
Abstract:
A powder hopper is provided with a low turbulence zone for supplying powder to a spray gun. The low turbulence zone is defined by a baffle inside the hopper with the low turbulence zone being within a volume of the baffle, and an annular zone between the baffle and the hopper is used to bulk feed powder into the hopper. The low turbulence zone may alternatively be in the annular zone with powder added to the volume of the baffle. One preferred application for this hopper is in connection with the use of fine powder coating materials to coat the interior of small diameter cans.
