Abstract: A method for retracting a partially extended pin of a sliding camshaft actuator having first and second pins being selectively actuatable by adjacent first and second magnetic field generating coils includes determining if the first or the second pin is partially extended after engine ignition. A partially extended first pin is retracted with flux linkage created by the second magnetic field generating coil being coupled unto the first magnetic field generating coil, and a partially extended second pin is retracted with flux linkage created by the first magnetic field generating coil being coupled unto the second magnetic field generating coil.

Abstract: The present invention provides a camshaft capable of suppressing an increase in the number of parts and the number of places to be processed, preventing scratching on a sliding surface that is a part of an outer peripheral surface of an outer shaft and on which an inner cam is rotated, and preventing occurrence of deformation in the entire camshaft after final assembly. A camshaft includes an inner cam that is attached from a radial direction of an outer shaft and that is fixed to an inner shaft with a pin inserted into the inner cam from the radial direction of the outer shaft in a cam surface of the inner cam.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine for increasing the freedom of the layout of a rocker arm wherein the rocker arm is lighter. The internal combustion engine includes a camshaft having a first exhaust cam and a second exhaust cam, a first exhaust valve, and a second exhaust valve. The internal combustion engine further includes a first rocker arm for actuating the first exhaust valve to open and close, a second rocker arm for actuating the second exhaust valve to open and close, and a decompression mechanism for lifting the first rocker arm in a valve opening direction at the timing of a compression stroke initiated by the internal combustion engine. The first rocker arm and the second rocker arm are provided with an angular movement transmitter for transmitting a turning force produced by a decompression operator in the valve opening direction from the first rocker arm to the second rocker arm.

Abstract: A fast acting valve train system for valve deactivation is provided that includes an actuator together with a switchable rocker arm. The actuator, controlled by the engine control unit and mounted to a structural housing, contains an actuator pin that retracts or extends facilitating either a deactivation or reactivation valve event. The switchable rocker arm is a two arm design that includes cam side and valve side arms that are coupled together with a locking mechanism assembly that interfaces with the actuator pin. The system is capable of fast switching times to meet the increased demands of cylinder deactivation systems.

Abstract: A control shaft of a cam shaft adjustment unit has axially spaced adjustment cams, which are designed in a first axial section of the control shaft for a continuous operation of a cylinder and in a second axial section for a cylinder shut-off. The adjustment cams for the continuous operation of a cylinder have, over the entire circumference of the cam circle, a radial extension which is greater than a zero stroke extension and the adjustment cams for the cylinder shut-off have, around their circumference, a shut-off section of the cam circle with a radial extension which is less than or equal to the zero stroke extension. The control shaft has a stop that reduces the rotation in both circumferential directions and functions as the calibration point for an engine electronics system.

Abstract: An oil separation device of an internal combustion engine includes a gas liquid separation chamber defined by a head cover of the engine, a gas introduction passage connected to a first end of the gas liquid separation chamber at an angle to the first direction, a gas inlet formed in an end of the gas introduction passage remote from the gas liquid separation chamber, and a gas outlet formed in a second end of the gas liquid separation chamber. Oil splashed from a valve actuating chamber of the engine is prevented from entering the oil separation device, and oil mist can be effectively separated from blow by gas.
