Abstract: A robotic walker and associated method are provided. The robotic walker includes a housing containing a control unit operatively connected to a drive unit. The drive unit is operatively connected to a pair of motorized drive wheels. The robotic walker includes first and second winches, each winch having a strap that can be retracted by its respective winch, each winch is operatively connected to the drive unit, each strap having an end adapted to be removably connected to a pair of leg braces worn by a user. The first and second winches may retract a portion of each respective strap to move the legs of the user forward. A first control button is operatively connected to the control unit. The control unit is configured to operate the robotic walker in at least one control mode and the first control button being operable to start the at least one control mode.

Abstract: Examples of a device for guiding and detecting a motion of a target joints and a motion assistance system such motion guiding devices are described. The motion guiding and detecting device comprises a motion generator and a motion transfer and target interfacing unit to transfer the motion generated by the motion generator to the target joint. The system further comprises a motion detection and feedback unit that interfaces with the target, and a controller that interfaces with both the feedback unit and the motion generator to control and coordinate the motion of the motion generator and the target joint.

Abstract: A device for the therapeutic treatment and/or training of the lower extremities of a human has independent driven and controlled movement devices which are connected to a stationary frame. Each of the movement devices include foot plates that are moved independently of one another along walking trajectories. Each movement device has a pivot arm pivotable into different elevations where the pivot arm is rotatably connected to a single sled on a linear track. A first rotational drive is attached to the sled and is connected to the pivot arm for changing the elevation of the respective holding member. A second rotational drive changes the inclination of the foot plate and the sled is connected to a linear drive for changing the longitudinal position of the foot plate.

Abstract: A harness for lifting a person in conjunction with a walker apparatus includes a seat portion made with flexible webbing. Two flexible, adjustable back straps are each fixed with a rear edge of the seat portion proximate one of two opposing lateral edges. Two flexible, adjustable front straps are each fixed with a front edge of the seat portion proximate one of the lateral edges. The back straps and front straps each include a connection mechanism for fixing with the walker apparatus. As such, with the harness under the person either in a prone position or a seated position, the back straps extend up the person's back and around his shoulders such that the back straps may be pulled forward and the walker apparatus raised so as to lift the person from the prone position into the seated position, or from the seated position into a standing position.

Abstract: A leg support exoskeleton is strapped on as wearable device to support its user during squatting. The exoskeleton includes a knee joint connected to a first line and a second link, which is configured to allow flexion and extension motion between the first link and the second link. A force generator has a first end that is rotatably connected to the first link. A constraining mechanism is connected to the second link and has at least two operational positions. In a first operational position, the second end of the force generator engages the constraining mechanism, where the first link and the second link flex relative to each other. In a second operational position, the second end of the force generator does not engage the constraining mechanism; the first link and the second link are free to flex and extend relative to each other.

Abstract: The control method for lower-limb assistive exoskeletons assists human movement by producing a desired dynamic response on the human leg. Wearing the exoskeleton replaces the leg's natural admittance with the equivalent admittance of the coupled system formed by the leg and the exoskeleton. The control goal is to make the leg obey an admittance model defined by target values of natural frequency, resonant peak magnitude and zero-frequency response. The control achieves these objectives objective via positive feedback of the leg's angular position and angular acceleration. The method achieves simultaneous performance and robust stability through a constrained optimization that maximizes the system's gain margins while ensuring the desired location of its dominant poles.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are vertical traction systems and methods of using the vertical traction systems to treat both bones and muscles in a normal working state. In one embodiment, a vertical traction system includes a frame, a load-bearing assembly, and a spinal traction assembly. The load-bearing assembly is coupled to the frame, and is configured to move vertically and support a subject under treatment in an upright position while the load-bearing assembly moves vertically. The spinal traction assembly is coupled to the frame, and is configured to pull the cervical or lumbar spine of the subject.

Abstract: A stretching device comprises a wearable body harness with an adjustable central hold arranged around the upper body connected with an adjustable extension strap configured to engage a foot at a distal end. The extension strap is slidably connected to the central strap to move along the length of the central strap. The extension strap comprises a non-elastic material, divided by a single elastic segment. The extension strap having incremental markings designating amount of adjustment. The device and method of using the device provides a comfortable tension, facilitates hands free stretching in the supine position, improving duration of stretching and range of motion. An independent adjustable stretching strap for upper body and shoulder stretching, further comprises a non-elastic material looped at each distal end, divided by a discrete elastic segment and having incremental visual markings designating amount of adjustment.
