Abstract:
The present invention is directed to an oil-soluble lubricating oil additive comprising at least one adduct of (A) a polyolefin of 700 to 5,000 number average molecular weight substituted with carboxylic acid producing moieties (preferably acid or anhydride moieties), and (B) a monoepoxy thiol.
Abstract:
Block and random straight chain and star-branched liquid copolymers of two different conjugated dienes, the residual ethylenic unsaturation of the polymerized units of one of which, e.g. isoprene, is less readily hydrogenated than that of the other diene, e.g., butadiene. In the case of block copolymers, the terminal blocks of a straight chain copolymer or the blocks of the free ends of the branches of a star-branched copolymer are composed of the less readily hydrogenated diene polymer while the more readily hydrogenated diene polymer is in the form of central blocks of a straight chain copolymer or interior blocks of the branches of a star-branched copolymer. These copolymers may be selectively hydrogenated so that substantially all of the residual ethylenic unsaturation of the more readily hydrogenated polymerized diene units are hydrogenated while enough residual ethylenic unsaturation of the less readily hydrogenated polymerized diene units remains unhydrogenated to provide sufficient sites for subsequent vulcanization or chemical modification. The combination of elastomeric properties and oxidative stability possessed by the polymers of this invention makes them suitable for many and uses such as sealants, caulks and adhesives.
Abstract:
Reversion problems with heavy oils, such as heavy fuel oils, are mitigated by introducing an effective amount of an additive that contains both a phase change material and a pour point depressant, even synergistically mitigated.
Abstract:
Described herein are associative polymers capable of controlling formation of particulate matter from a non-polar ignitable composition upon ignition of the non-polar ignitable composition, alone or in combination with control of a physical and/or chemical property of the non-polar compositions and related compositions, methods and systems. Associative polymers herein described have a non-polar backbone and functional groups presented at ends of the non-polar backbone, with a number of the functional groups presented at the ends of the non-polar backbone formed by associative functional groups capable of undergoing an associative interaction with another associative functional group with an association constant (k) such that the strength of each associative interaction is less than the strength of a covalent bond between atoms and in particular less than the strength of a covalent bond between backbone atoms.
Abstract:
Described herein are associative polymers capable of controlling a physical and/or chemical property of non-polar compositions that can be used when the non-polar composition is in a flow, and related compositions, methods and systems. Associative polymers herein described have a non-polar backbone with a longest span having a molecular weight that remains substantially unchanged under the flow conditions and functional groups presented at ends of the non-polar backbone, with a number of the functional groups presented at the ends of the non-polar backbone formed by associative functional groups capable of undergoing an associative interaction with another associative functional group with an association constant (k) such that the strength of each associative interaction is less than the strength of a covalent bond between atoms and in particular less than the strength of a covalent bond between backbone atoms.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a control release gel for delivery of additives to fuels where the gel compositions are free of ash producing components, or are substantially free of ash producing components, such that the gel compositions of the present invention do not supply any ash to the fuel compositions with which they are used. Further, the invention provides for the use of such compositions in the operation of an internal combustion engine.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to motor fuel compositions comprising at least one diesel fuel of mineral origin and at least one biodiesel fuel, characterized in that the fuel composition contains at least 20% by weight of diesel fuel of mineral origin and 0.05% to 5% by weight of at least one polymer which comprises ester groups and contains repeating units that are derived from ester monomers having 16 to 40 carbon atoms in the alcohol radical, and repeating units that are derived from ester monomers having 7 to 15 carbon atoms in the alcohol radical. The present invention further describes the use of polymers comprising ester groups as flow improvers, and also a process for operating a diesel engine.
Abstract:
The invention therefore provides an additive for improving the cold flow performance of middle distillates, comprising I) at least one paraffin dispersant which is a derivative of a fatty amine, II) at least one block copolymer of the structure (AB)nA or (AB)m, where A represents blocks which are composed of olefinically unsaturated, aromatic monomers, and B represents blocks which are composed of structural elements based on polyolefins and are capable of cocrystallizing with the paraffins precipitating out of the middle distillate in the course of cooling, and n is a number in the range from 1 to 10 and m is a number in the range from 2 to 10.
Abstract:
The invention provides dispersants and dispersant viscosity index improvers which include polymers of conjugated dienes which have been hydrogenated, functionalized, optionally modified, and post treated. The dispersant substances include a copolymer of two different conjugated dienes. The polymers are selectively hydrogenated to produce polymers which have highly controlled amounts of unsaturation, permitting highly selective functionalization. Also provided are lubricant fluids, such as mineral and synthetic oils, which have been modified in their dispersancy and/or viscometric properties by means of the dispersant substances of the invention. Also provided are methods of modifying the dispersancy and/or viscometric properties of lubricating fluids such as mineral and synthetic lubricating oils. The dispersant substances may also include a carrier fluid to provide dispersant concentrates.
