Abstract: Methods for forming a coated digitally manufactured part include forming an article by a digital manufacturing method; coating a surface of the article with a reactive silicon-containing precursor polymer; and treating the polymer to form a silica-containing coating, thereby forming the coated digitally manufactured part. An article includes a digitally manufactured part having surface striations; and a coating encapsulating the digitally manufactured part and comprising silica. An article includes a digitally manufactured part (i) formed by selective lase sintering, (ii) comprising a surface defined by coalesced particles, and (iii) having a surface roughness Ra of at least 0.1 microns; and a coating encapsulating the part and comprising silica. A composition comprising polysilazane is described.

Abstract: A free radical curable automotive body primer is provided that has a color change corresponding to the progress of the cure process until a dry to sand condition has been attained and an internal colored guide coat that does not change color given its exposure to ambient air and as a result, has a different color on the surface of the primer than when in bulk, allowing for the detection and removal of low spots or other imperfections from a vehicle body by additional sanding of the inventive primer to remove oxidized guide coat colorant surface regions. The cure color change is achieved through resort to at least one color changing dye that reacts with a free radical cure initiator during the vehicle body priming process and changes color to indicate when the primer composition has achieved a level of cure so as to be dry enough to sand.

Abstract: Medical devices that include a tubular member with a plurality of braided filaments, each filament crossing another of the filaments at a respective crossing point forming sidewall and a plurality of pores in the sidewall that are sized to inhibit flow of blood through the sidewall into an aneurysm to a degree sufficient to lead to thrombosis and healing of the aneurysm when the tubular member is positioned in a blood vessel and adjacent to the aneurysm, the pores have an average pore size that is less than or equal to about 500 microns when the tubular member is in an expanded state, the filaments possessing antithrombogenic surfaces to increase antithrombogenicity of the medical device with pores substantially free of webs formed by antithrombogenic material, such that fewer than 5% of the crossing points have webs formed by antithrombogenic material thereby permitting the pores to be substantially free of webs.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for coating a substrate comprising: a) providing a liquid aqueous coating composition, the composition comprising an acrylic resin as binder, one or more surfactants, a coalescence solvent, and a thickener; b) foaming the liquid aqueous coating composition to obtain a foamed coating composition; c) applying a layer of the foamed coating composition on the substrate; and d) allowing gas to escape from the layer of foamed coating composition and allowing the coating composition to dry to form a homogeneous non-foam dried coating, wherein the liquid aqueous coating composition provided in step a) comprises the acrylic resin in a concentration in the range of from 1 to 20 wt %, comprises the thickener in a concentration in the range of from 0.05 to 2.0 wt %, and has a solids content of at most 25 wt %, based on the total weight of the liquid aqueous coating composition. Abstract: A sheet comprising: (1) a core member comprising one or more layers and having a first major surface and (2) a slip control layer disposed on at least a portion of the first major surface, wherein the slip control layer comprises: (i) a footing layer disposed on at least a portion of the first major surface of the core member, (ii) a binder layer disposed on the footing layer, and (iii) an array of particles disposed in the binder layer and footing layer and protruding therefrom, wherein the average diameter of the particles is greater than the combined thickness of the foot layer and binder layer. A process for making such a sheet comprising: (1) providing a core member; (2) forming a footing layer on at least a portion of the first major surface of the core member, wherein the footing layer is viscoelastic and has a Tg that is lower than either the Tg or the Tm of the polymer at the first major surface of the core member; (3) applying a binder layer composition comprising a film forming polymer and particles to the surface of the footing layer; then (4) tentering the assembly under sufficient heat to soften the footing layer such that the particles sink into the footing layer, wherein the average diameter of the particles is greater than the combined thickness of the footing layer and binder layer.

Abstract: A pattern is formed on a substrate with forming a layer of a curable composition (A1) containing a polymerizable compound (a1) on a surface of the substrate, then dispensing droplets of a curable composition (A2) containing a polymerizable compound (a2) dropwise discretely onto the curable composition (A1) layer, subsequently sandwiching a mixture layer of the curable composition (A1) and the curable composition (A2) between a mold and the substrate, then irradiating the mixture layer with light to cure the mixture layer, and releasing the mold from the mixture layer after the curing. The curable composition (A1) except a solvent has a viscosity at 25° C. of 40 mPa·s or more and less than 500 mPa·s. The curable composition (A2) except a solvent has a viscosity at 25° C. of 1 mPa·s or more and less than 40 mPa·s.
