A miniaturized spectrometer/spectrophotometer system and methods are disclosed. A probe tip including one or more light sources and a plurality of light receivers is provided. A first spectrometer system receives light from a first set of the plurality of light receivers. A second spectrometer system receives light from a second set of the plurality of light receivers. A processor, wherein the processor receives data generated by the first spectrometer system and the second spectrometer system, wherein an optical measurement of a sample under test is produced based on the data generated by the first and second spectrometer systems.
Abstract:
The use of a digital camera in communication with a mobile device to determine the intensity of ambient light conditions is described herein. In one example, the digital camera receives light energy representing ambient light. The intensity of the ambient light is determined and, based upon a comparison of that intensity to a setpoint, the mobile device is reconfigured. In another example, a mobile device is described that uses a digital camera to measure ambient light conditions. The mobile device can be configured in various ways based upon a determination of the intensity and/or wavelengths of the ambient light.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for generating a color mapping for a dental object. The method includes generating a transformation matrix according to a set of spectral reflectance data for a statistically valid sampling of teeth. Illumination is directed toward the dental object over at least a first, a second, and a third wavelength band, one wavelength band at a time. For each of a plurality of pixels in an imaging array, an image data value is obtained, corresponding to each of the at least first, second, and third wavelength bands. The transformation matrix is applied to form the color mapping by generating a set of visual color values for each of the plurality of pixels according to the obtained image data values and according to image data values obtained from a reference object at the at least first, second, and third wavelength bands. The color mapping can be stored in an electronic memory.

The invention relates to a method for matching the color of a dry color shade standard, said method comprising the steps of A) Measuring the dry color shade standard, B) Calculating a recipe for the dry color shade standard, C) Generating a virtual wet color shade standard based on the recipe for the dry color shade standard calculated in step B), wherein the virtual wet color shade standard is generated with wet characterization data and D) Matching the virtual wet color shade standard. The method can be used for elaboration of color shades and batch adjustment in production of paints.

A spectroscopic apparatus includes an optical system configured to transmit output light from a sample irradiated with irradiation light from a light source, a two-dimensional array light detector configured to photograph light transmitted through the optical system, and a control unit. The optical system includes a first optical device disposed between the sample and the two-dimensional array light detector, a second optical device disposed between the two-dimensional array light detector and the first optical device, and a variable band-pass filter disposed in at least one of spaces between the first optical device and the sample and between the second optical device and the two-dimensional array light detector. The control unit changes a light transmission wavelength band of the variable band-pass filter in accordance with a photographing timing of the two-dimensional array light detector.

A computer-implemented method of color matching a repair paint formula is disclosed. The method includes steps of inputting a color code for a vehicle paint; searching a computer database for formulations associated with the color code; selecting a plurality of the formulations for display; displaying digital images of the selected formulations at a plurality of viewing angles; determining one of the displayed formulations as a best match to the vehicle paint; and identifying the formulation for the best match.

A method for creating a database for paint colors having a desired texture includes storing spectral reflectance data and micro-brilliance data of paint colors after associating each spectral reflectance data and each micro-brilliance data with a paint color code; storing texture evaluation values of sample paint colors after associating the each texture evaluation value with the paint color code; calculating characteristic quantities of the paint colors expressing textures using the spectral reflectance data and the micro-brilliance data, and storing the characteristic quantities after associating the each characteristic quantity with the paint color code; training a neural network using the characteristic quantities and the texture evaluation values of the sample paint colors as training data; and inputting characteristic quantities of the paint colors other than the sample paint colors into the neural network after the training, and storing output data after associating each output data with the paint color code.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a method and apparatus for non-destructive testing of a seed. In various embodiments, the method may comprise vibrating the seed to orient the seed on an axis, identifying a location of a known feature of the seed, determining a sample location on the seed based on the location of the known feature, and performing a non-destructive testing procedure on the seed proximate the sample location. In one embodiment, the method may comprise removing a sample portion of the seed from the sample location without damaging the embryo of the seed. Accordingly, the viability of the seed may be maintained while allowing for subsequent testing on the sample portion of the seed.
