Abstract:
Organosilicone materials that are "density-matched" to the hydrocarbon medium also act as defoamers in hydrocarbon fuel, specifically as described herein for diesel fuel. Specifically these new defoamers can be described as cross-linked organopolysiloxane-polyoxyalkylenes. They have the characteristics of being slightly soluble or insoluble in water and hydrocarbon fuels. By changing the solvent and the method of dispersion, different particle size distributions are obtained.

Fuel compositions for internal combustion engines comprising a gasoline, a hydrocarbon-soluble allotropic form of carbon, and optionally a dispersing agent are provided. Two-cycle engines operated utilizing the fuel compositions provided herein emit lessened amounts of undesirable hydrocarbon exhaust gas emissions.

Fuel compositions for internal combustion engines and more particularly, fuel compositions for 2-cycle internal combustion engines comprising a gasoline, a hydrocarbon-soluble allotropic form of carbon, and a dispersing agent are provided. Engines operated utilizing the fuel compositions provided produce considerably lessened amounts of undesirable exhaust gas emmissions.

The invention presented involves a method for regenerating, replacing or treating the catalyst in a hydroprocessing reactor, the method comprising admixing with the feedstock, recycle stream or hydrogen stream of the reactor an additive which comprises a nonionic, organometallic platinum group metal coordination composition which is a) resistant to breakdown under ambient temperatures; b) capable of breakdown at temperatures existing in the vicinity of the catalyst; and c) does not contain a disadvantageous amount of phosphorus, arsenic, sulfur, antimony or halides.

A substantially particulate-free homogeneous lubricant additive includes a first nonionic fluorochemical surfactant selected from the group consisting of fluoroaliphatic oxyethylene adducts and fluoroaliphatic oxypropylene adducts, and a second oil solubilizing nonionic surfactant and a transport or carrier medium ranging from light oil to grease. The additive also utilizes an antioxidant, a petroleum distillate solvent and a bactericide.

The invention provides gasoline additive compositions comprising solutions of at least one fuel-soluble platinum group metal compound in a solvent miscible in the gasoline, the platinum group metal complex being present in an amount sufficient to supply from 0.01 to 1.0 parts per million of the platinum group metal when added to a predetermined amount of gasoline.Preferred solvents are oxygenated hydrocarbons such as ethanol, tetrahydrofuran, and methyl tertiary butyl ether, and will preferably be employed in amounts of less than 5% of the weight of the gasoline to provide oxygen and the metal at a weight ratio of from 1,000:1 to 100,000:1. Especially preferred compounds are those of the formula:X M.sup.II R.sub.2wherein X is a cyclooctadienyl ligand; M is a platinum group metal; and R is benzyl, phenyl or nitrobenzyl.The additive compositions and fuel treated therewith improve operating efficiency of internal combustion engines in terms of increased power output per unit of fuel burned and reduce the emissions of particulates and noxious gases such as carbon monoxide and nitrogen monoxide. The additives provide beneficial results upon immediate use and over long periods of continuous use.

The octane requirement increase phenomenon in a spark ignition internal combustion engine is controlled by introducing with the combustion charge a fuel composition containing an octane requirement increase-inhibiting amount of a combination of compounds, the combination comprising a first compound being (1) a gasoline soluble amide and (2) a second compound being a gasoline soluble ketone. Usually the first and second compounds are each added to the fuel in an amount between about 0.001 and 3 weight percent of the fuel. In particular, the combination of N,N-dibutyl formamide and either benzophenone or methylcyclohexanone provides an effective octane requirement increase-inhibiting additive for unleaded gasoline.
Abstract:
A fuel composition for internal combustion engines, and more particularly, a fuel composition for internal combustion engines containing less than about 0.5 gram of lead per gallon of fuel is described. The fuel provides acceptable valve seat protection in engines designed to operate on leaded fuels. A further aspect of the invention is to reduce deposit formation within the cylinders.

Novel (3',5'-dihydrocarbyl-4'-hydroxybenzyl)-1,3-diketones are prepared by reacting an N,N-dihydrocarbyl-2,6-dihydrocarbyl-4-aminomethylphenol with a 1,3-diketone and an alkyl halide in the presence of an alkali or an alkaline earth metal hydride. The products are useful as antioxidants.
