A spectroscope includes an optical fiber 218, a collimator optical system 231 for collimating signal light come out from the optical fiber 218, a spectroscopic element 233 for dispersing the signal light collimated by the collimator optical system 231, a detector 237 composed of a plurality of detector elements 237a disposed at least in a direction of dispersion and detecting the light dispersed by the spectroscopic element 233, and a focusing optical system 236 for focusing the signal light come out from the detector 237 onto a detecting surface of the detector 237. It is set such that the focusing optical system 236 makes a diameter of a spot of the signal light focused on the detecting surface of the detector 237 smaller than an arranged pitch of the detector 237 and a numerical aperture of the collimator optical system 231 is larger than that of the optical fiber 218.

Abstract:
A color measurement instrument includes a housing and illuminators, a two-dimensional photodetector array, and an optics system within the housing. A UV filter wheel closes the housing to prevent contaminants from entering the housing. The filter wheel supports UV filters and non-UV glass that can be selectively aligned with the illuminators. The photodetectors can be read in parallel, and each photodetector includes a unique spectral filter. The optics system delivers light from the sample target area equally to each of the photodetectors.
Abstract:
A hand-held portable modular spectrometer unit. The unit includes a detachable head containing a light source and optical components for detecting spectral information from light reflected from or transmitted through a target and a processor for converting the detected spectral information into digital information. The unit also includes a plug-in rechargeable power supply and a control module for controlling the components in the measurement head. The controller includes a computer processor for analyzing the digital information produced by the measurement head and a display monitor for displaying spectral information produced by the control unit. In preferred embodiments the plug-in rechargeable power supply is a 12-volt off-the-shelf power-tool rechargeable battery unit. In preferred embodiments several measuring heads are available. These include a gas cell measuring head, a surface reflectance measuring head that includes and integrating sphere, a specular reflectance measuring head, a grazing angle measuring head, an attenuated total reflectance measuring head, a diffuse reflection measuring head, a non-volatile residues measuring head, a liquid transmission cell measuring head and a fluorescence measuring head. Each of these measurement heads includes a spectrometer. Several types of spectrometers are available including those based on filters, prisms, gratings and interferometers. The unit can operate in a wide range of wavelengths including the infrared, visible and ultraviolet spectral ranges.

A variable wavelength ultraviolet lamp. An apparatus for selectively producing one or more of a plurality of wavelength distributions of light is provided, comprising a primary light source having a primary wavelength distribution, at least one wavelength-transforming material that, in response to illumination by the primary light source produces secondary light having a wavelength distribution different from the primary light wavelength distribution, the wavelength-transforming material being disposed on a substrate external to the primary light source, and a wavelength-transforming material selection mechanism for placing at least a portion of one or more selected wavelength-transforming materials in front of the primary light source, in a selected preferred direction of light emission from the apparatus, such that the selected wavelength-transforming materials emit from the apparatus light having a wavelength distribution different from the primary light wavelength distribution.

A forensic light source which comprises a flexible liquid light guide receiving light from a light source and transmitting it to a selected interference filter which tilts with respect to the light source is disclosed. The filter is mounted for rotation with respect to the output of the light guide. The light exiting the filter is passed through a mixing member made of a randomized fiber optic bundle, that is positioned to receive the output of the filter. The mixing member defines multiple paths for light between the input face and the output face which are configured to disperse light from one mixing member input face region to a plurality of mixing member output face regions.

There is provided a monochromator capable of downsizing thereof. According to a monochromator, a light transmission hole through which beam of light which is given out from a light source is transmitted and multiple plate-like filter blocks each having central axis of rotation which is parallel with beam of light are provided on a filter base. Various optical filters are attached to the holes of filter blocks and the filter block serves as a light shielding block. The filter blocks attached to the rotary shafts of motors are reciprocally rotated between a forward position of the optical transmission hole serving as a position of transmission of light and a standby position spaced away from the optical transmission hole so that the filter blocks can be downsized, and even if there are many patterns of combination of optical filters, multiple optical filters can be easily combined with each other and even if the optical filters are used singly or used while combined with each other, which does not take time for changing the optical filter, thereby enhancing efficiency compared with the conventional monochromator.

Optical systems that provide for simultaneous images and spectra from an object, such as a tissue sample, an industrial object such as a computer chip, or any other object that can be viewed with an optical system such as a microscope, endoscope, telescope or camera. In some embodiments, the systems provide multiple images corresponding to various desired wavelength ranges within an original image of the object, as well as, if desired, directional pointer(s) that can provide both an identification of the precise location from which a spectrum is being obtained, as well as enhancing the ability to point the device.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an improvement in a wavelength division multiplexer and/or a dense wavelength division multiplexer (WDM/DWDM) by incorporating an electronically reconfigurable diffraction grating. The introduction of the electronically reconfigurable diffraction grating, which is typically fabricated using MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) technology, improves the compact design, durability, and dynamic functionality of the WDM/DWDM system.

Calibrating each of a plurality of driven optical filters. The color parameters of the driven optical filters are characterized for the individual optical filter. These color parameters are used as calibration data to calibrate more standard information.
