    Abstract: The invention concerns polymers which contain cyclodextrin groups and are obtained by: (a) deprotonation of cyclodextrins or modified cyclodextrins with bases, with the exclusion of water; and (b) reaction of the deprotonated cyclodextrins or cyclodextrin derivatives obtained in (a) with polymers containing reactive groups in the absence of water. The invention further concerns a process for preparing the polymers containing cyclodextrin groups and the use of the polymers containing cyclodextrin groups as gel-forming agents and thickeners for the molecular encapsulation of active substances in the field of pharmacy, cosmetics and plant protection, as well as detergent additives, softener additives and as textile and laundry after-treatment agents.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing copolymers from vinyl esters and monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids by the radical copolymerisation of: (a) 20 to 80 mol % vinyl esters of aliphatic monocarboxylic acids having at least two carbon atoms, (b) 80 to 20 mol % monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids and, optionally, (c) 0 to 30 mol % of other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers which can be copolymerised, and/or (d) 0 to 10 mol % monomers containing at least two ethylenically unsaturated non-conjugated double bonds in the molecule, in the presence of at least one sulphur, phosphorus and/or nitrogen compound having a reducing effect and of 0.05 to 30 wt %, relative to the monomers, of at least one surfactant in an aqueous medium and in the presence of initiators and, optionally, regulators. The invention further relates to the use of the copolymers or the copolymers comprising vinyl alcohol units obtained therefrom by hydrolysis and/or oxidation, as additives for washing and cleaning agents.

    Abstract: The invention concerns the use of aqueous solutions or dispersions of copolymers which are obtained by the radical copolymerization of: (a) between 20 and 90 wt % of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated C4-C6 dicarboxylic acid or its anhydride as component A; (b) between 5 and 50 wt % of at least one C2-C6 olefin as component B; (c) between 5 and 50 wt % of at least one hydrophobic comonomer selected from the group comprising the long-chain olefins, esters of long-chain alcohols with acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, amides of long-chain amides with acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and the long-chain alkylvinyl ethers as component C; and (d) between 0 and 40 wt % of further comonomers which can be copolymerized with the above monomers as component D; the total of the amounts of components A, B, C and optionally D being 100 wt %. This copolymerization process is followed by at least partial esterification or hydrolysis and neutralizing and/or reaction with bases of the carboxyl groups which occur during hydrolysis. These solutions or dispersions are used for treating leather and/or furs.
