    Abstract: Producing slightly branched alkylaromatics by alkylating aromatics with olefins in the presence of an acid catalyst comprises reducing the hydroperoxide content of the olefin feed to less than 1 g per kg of catalyst per hour by treatment with an inorganic hydride. An independent claim is also included for producing alkylaryl sulfonates by contacting a C4 olefin mixture with a metathesis catalyst to produce an olefin mixture containing 2-pentene and/or 3-hexene; optionally separating the 2-pentene and/or 3-hexene; dimerizing the 2-pentene and/or 3-hexene, optionally together with C4 and/or C7 olefins, in the presence of a dimerization catalyst, to give a C8-C14 olefin mixture; optionally separating the C8-C14 olefins and separating 5-30 wt.% of low boilers; reducing the hydroperoxide content of the C8-C14 olefin mixture as above; optionally adding linear olefins in an amount of 0-60 wt.%; reacting the C8-C14 olefin mixture with aromatics in the presence of an acid catalyst to produce alkylaromatics; optionally adding linear alkylbenzenes in an amount of 0-60 wt.%; sulfonating the alkylaromatics and neutralizing the products to give alkylaryl sulfonates; and optionally mixing the alkylaryl sulfonates with 0-60 wt.% (words missing).

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for continually producing 1,3-dioxolan-2-ones such as ethylene carbonate or propylene carbonate by reacting a corresponding oxirane with carbon dioxide in liquid phase in the presence of a catalyst. The reaction is carried out in a two-part reactor. In the first part of the reactor, the reaction is carried out with back-mixing until a conversion rate of oxirane II of at least 80 % has been reached. In the second part, the reaction is completed under conditions without back-mixing, the carbon dioxide being guided to the oxirane II in a counterflow throughout the reactor.
