Abstract: The invention relates to a method for treating wood or wood material surfaces with surface treatment agents and to the wood or wood materials treated by said method. Said method comprises the steps of a) impregnating wood, a wood material or a material for manufacturing a wood material with a hardenable aqueous composition, which contains at least one cross-linkable compound, selected from .alpha.) low-molecular weight compounds V, having at least two N-bonded groups of formula CH2OH, wherein R = hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl, and/or one 1,2-bishydroxyethan-1,2-diyl group, bridging two nitrogen atoms, .beta.) precondensates of the compound V and .gamma.) reaction products or mixtures of the compound V with at least one alcohol, selected from C1-C6 alkanols, C2-C6 polyols and oligoalkylene glycols, b) treating the material obtained in step a) at an elevated temperature and, optionally, transforming said material into a wood material and c) treating at least one surface of the wood or wood material to be treated with a surface treatment agent and, optionally, drying the treated surface in a manner known per se.

Abstract: A radiation curable polyurethane composition contains an aliphatic urethane group comprising a pre-polymer having two ethylenically unsaturated double bonds per molecule and a monofunctional ester of an alpha , beta -unsaturated carboxylic acid having a saturated 5-6C ring or heterocyclic ring. A radiation curable composition (I) contains: (A) an aliphatic, urethane group containing pre-polymer having on average, two ethylenically unsaturated double bonds per molecule; (B) a monofunctional ester of an alpha , beta -unsaturated carboxylic acid with a monofunctional alcohol, that has a saturated 5-6 membered carbon ring or heterocyclic ring comprising 1-2 oxygen atoms; and optionally (C) a di- or poly-functional ester of an alpha , beta -unsaturated carboxylic acid with an aliphatic di- or polyol. An Independent claim is included for a coating process of substrates by applying (I) to a substrate, optionally removing a solvent and irradiating with UV or an electron beam.

Abstract: A curable polyurethane polymer comprises a hydroxyl group containing prepolymer, a compound having a hydroxyl group and/or prim. or sec. amine group and a compound having at least 2 isocyanate groups and/or their salts whereby the ratio of isocyanate group equivalents to isocyanate reactive groups is 0.4:1-0.9:1. A curable polyurethane polymer (I) comprises: (A) 10-60 wt.% of a hydroxyl group containing prepolymer having at least a thermally or photochemically polymerizable alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated double bond (B) 0.1-30 wt.% of a compound having a hydroxyl group and/or prim. or sec. amine group that is reactive towards an isocyanate group and having at least one polar functional group per molecule; (C) 0.1-30 wt.% of a diamine and/or polyamine; (D) 0-10 wt.% of a compound, different to (A), (B), (C) and (E) having at least 2 isocyanate reactive groups and containing hydroxyl and/or prim. and/or sec. amine groups; (E) 0-20 wt.% of a compound having one isocyanate reactive group; (F) 10-65 wt.% of a compound having at least 2 isocyanate groups and/or their salts whereby the ratio of isocyanate group equivalents in (F) to isocyanate reactive groups is (A)-(E) is 0.4:1-0.9:1. Independent claims are included for: (i) a polymer dispersion containing (I); and (ii) a coating agent containing (I).

Abstract: A water dispersible, radiation curable polyurethane comprises organic aliphatic or alicyclic polyisocyanates, cycloaliphatic diols and/or cycloaliphatic diamines, compounds having at least one isocyanate reactive group and at least one radically polymerizable unsaturated group and compounds having at least one isocyanate reactive group and at least one dispersion aiding group. A water dispersible, radiation curable polyurethane (I) comprises: (A) organic aliphatic or alicyclic polyisocyanates; (B) cycloaliphatic diols and/or cycloaliphatic diamines; (C) compounds having at least one isocyanate reactive group and at least one radically polymerizable unsaturated group; (D) compounds having at least one isocyanate reactive group and at least one dispersion aiding group; (E) optionally compounds having at least two isocyanate reactive groups having a mol. wt. of less than 1000 g/mol; (F) optionally compounds having at least one isocyanate reactive group that are different to (A)-(D). Independent claims are included for: (i) a polyurethane dispersion (II) comprising the polyurethane (I) and optionally 0-10 wt.% of a photochemical and/or thermal initiator and 0-10 wt.% of a UV absorber and a HALS compound; (ii) a process for the coating of substrates by application of the polyurethane dispersion (II), optionally containing conventional paint additives, onto a substrate and curing by means of electron irradiation or UV light under oxygen, or preferably under inert gas; (iii) the resulting coated substrate.
