    Abstract: The invention concerns a mixture comprising alkylation products of monosaccharides, of the following formula (I): (CnH2n-1On)-R , which are acetalized in position 1 by the radical R , in which formula n stands for the number 5 or 6 and R designates a C1 to C4 alkyl group, a C1 to C3 mono or dihydroxyalkyl group or a C1 to C3 methoxy or ethoxyalkyl group, and epoxides of formula (II) wherein R and R independently of each other mean hydrogen or an alkyl or alkenyl radical which can additionally carry C1 to C4 carboxylic acid alkylester groups and can be interrupted by non-adjacent oxygen atoms, in which the total number of carbon atoms of the two radicals R and R has to be between 4 and 60, said mixture containing 50 to 100 wt % monoalkylation products and 0 to 50 wt % higher alkylation products, at least one of the possible regio-isomer monoalkylation products being present in an amount of at least 30 wt % if n equals 6 or at least 40 wt % if n equals 5, in each case relative to the total of all the monoalkylation products formed.

    Abstract: In deinking printed waste paper by beating in aqueous medium in the presence of deinking agent and purification by washing of flotation, the deinking agent (I) comprises hydrogenated 24-50C dimeric acids with an iodine number \} 20 and/or their alkali(ne earth) metal and/or ammonium salts and/or alkoxylation products. Also claimed is the use of these acids and derivatives as (I) for deinking printed waste paper. Preferably (I) consists of 30-40C acids and/or alkoxylation products, especially a 36C acid with an iodine number \} 7.5. The waste paper is beaten in the presence of aqueous sodium hydroxide solution, water glass, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and optionally a ligand. Alternatively, beating and flotation are carried out at pH 6.5-8.8 in the absence of these additives and surfactants.

    Abstract: Hydroxyalkylaminocarboxylic acids have the general formula (I), in which R is hydrogen, a C1-C4 alkyl residue or a group having the formulas -CHR -CH(OH)-R or -CH2)n-COOM, in which n equals 1 to 4; R and R represent independently from each other hydrogen, a phenyl residue or an alkyl or alkenyl residue that may in addition bear phenoxy groups, carboxylic acid C1-C4-alkyl ester groups or ester groups derived from triglycerides based on unsaturated C10-C22 fatty acids and may be interrupted by non-adjacent oxygen atoms, the sum of all C atoms from both residues R and R being at least 4; A is a linear or branched C1-C6 alkylene group that may in addition bear a hydroxyl group and/or a group having the formula COOM, and R and A may form together with the N atom a 5- or 6-membered ring; and M is hydrogen, alkaline metal, ammonium or substituted ammonium. These hydroxyalkylaminocarboxylic acids are useful as complexing agents for alkaline earth and heavy metal ions.

    Abstract: An image recording sheet for thermotransfer printing has an image recording layer that contains a dried polymer latex with a minimal film-building temperature of up to 80 DEG C. The polymer is composed of: (I) 40 to 70 wt % vinyl halogenide; 30 to 60 wt % at least one ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid with alcohols having 1 to 24 C atoms; and 0 to 20 wt % at least another copolymerizable, non cationic monomer; or (II) 80 to 100 wt % at least one ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid with alcohols having 1 to 24 C atoms; and 0 to 20 wt % at least another copolymerizable, non cationic monomer; or (III) 8 to 70 wt % at least one nitrogen-free vinyl aromatic compound and/or one ethylenically insatured nitrile having 3 to 6 C atoms; 30 to 92 wt % at least one ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid with alcohols that contain 1 to 24 C atoms; and 0 to 20 wt % of at least another copolymerizable, non cationic monomer; or (IV) 30 to 95 wt % vinyl ester of carbon acids that contain 1 to 20 C atoms; 5 to 70 % at least one ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid with alcohols that contain 1 to 24 C atoms; 0 to 15 wt % an ethylenically insatured nitril with 3 to 6 C atoms; and 0 to 10 wt % at least another copolymerizable, non cationic monomer. Also disclosed are the preparation and use of the polymer latex in reproduction processes and for producing information systems.
