    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication apparatus about a wireless data communi cation network, using wireless data communication between a mobile data processing unit and a central computer. SOLUTION: This wireless local area network includes a simplified RF port formed so as to be provided with a low level medium access control function. A higher level media access control function is provided in a cell controller and may be operated as one or more RF ports. A mobile unit can also be configured by being provided with the higher level media access control function to be executed in a host processor.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transceiver having a transmitter section and a receiver section by forming a modulator and a down converter on a single semiconductor body. SOLUTION: A transmitter section 12 and a receiver section 14 are formed on a single semiconductor body 51. The section 12 is provided with a modulator 22, transmission channel selector 24, frequency multiplier 26 and power amplifier 28, and the modulator 22 superimposes information from a microprocessor 18 onto the amplitude of any suitable radio-frequency carrier wave signal such as a microwave-frequency carrier wave signal. Moreover, the section 14 is provided with a low-noise amplifier 40, down converter 42 (equipped with a sample/hold circuit 43 and a low-pass filter 45), receiver channel selector 46, rough AGC circuit 48 and digital signal processor 50. The processor 50 performs automatic gain control and the amplitude adjustment of the digital signal, corresponding to the output of a demodulator 56.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a new method reading a two-dimensional bar code symbol through the use of a few light sources and mechanically simple structure. CONSTITUTION: This method simultaneously illuminates the plural areas of the different light reflectance in the bar code symbol by using a laser luminous flux 12 with a thin and long cross section. In order that the two-dimensional area of the symbol is illuminated with the lapse of time, the laser luminous flux 12 is swept on the symbol in the crossing direction of the thin and long size of an illuminated area until the symbol is read. Reflected light from the illuminated area of the symbol is image-formed on a linear sensor array. After then the sensor array is scanned to generate an electric signal expressing the spatial intensity difference of light image-formed along the linear path within a viewing range.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide an intelligent fixation device which converts a single straight-line scanning pattern emitted by a hand-held scanner into an all- directional scanning pattern consisting of crossing scanning lines. CONSTITUTION: A trigger-operated or triggerless scanner 10 reads a bar code symbol out with a 1st scanning pattern at a 1st attitude where the scanner is held in a hand and used. The intelligent fixation device 110 supports the scanner 10 selectively as a hand-free work station and the scanner 10 is merely fitted to the fixation device 110 to converts the 1st scanning pattern into a 2nd different scanning pattern. The scanner 10 reads the bar code symbol out at a 2nd attitude where this work station is used. The scanner 10 is equipped with a signal processing digital circuit so as to reconstitute the bar code symbol faithfully and digitally.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a method for reading a bar code which is encoded by the relative width of one or both of bars and spaces and by the relative height of the bar by scanning with long laser beams across the bar code which is height-modulated or width-modulated. CONSTITUTION: The bar code is scanned by a light source generating almost oval illumination spot 200. The bar code may be a height modulation code (A) or a width modulation code (B). The intensity of light reflected from the bar code changes when the illumination spot crosses the bar code. When the illumination spot 200 crosses the spaces (205'), reflected light intensity reaches a maximum value and it reduces when it crosses a short bar [205" of (A)] or a fine bar [205" of (B)]. Reflected light intensity reaches a minimum value when it crosses the long bar [205"' of (A)] or the thick bar [205"' of (B)]. Consequently, it is clear that the patterns of (A) and (B) become the patterns of reflected light intensity and they can be decoded.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide an analog waveform decoder which can surely and efficiently decode high-density bar code symbols. CONSTITUTION: Software executed in the analog waveform decoder discriminates a decodable part of an analog waveform first. Then, the decodable part is processed to obtain plural waveform descriptors defining the decodable part. Then, a high-density decoding process is performed for one or more of the waveform descriptors to generate a 1st decoded signal representing information included in the high-density bar code symbols. In case of a failure in the decoding process, an undecoded signal is generated. According to the undecoded signal, a low-density processing is performed to generate a 2nd decoded signal representing information included in low-density symbols. One of the 1st and 2nd decoded signals is outputted from the analog waveform decoder.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To easily read bar codes having various densities by operation angles in a wide range. CONSTITUTION: Light emitting elements 61 and 62, a photodetection element 63, and a related circuit network are so arranged that two data channels are obtained from a scanned bar code. Two channels have different resolutions. Data of two channels are analyzed to obtain one decoded result. Though the operation angle and the density of the bar code are changed, at least one of two channels having different resolutions must be suitable for detection of the whole or most of bar code data. Data of the channel which generates the correct result can be used as it is. Even if two channels don't generate correct results by themselves, data of each channel is analyzed, and correct parts of their data are combined to generate one correct decoded result.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To use this device in various modes such as hand holding and arm holding by constituting a scanning module by fixing constituting members except a mirror to a common assembly, and fixing it to each kind of housing so as to be converted. CONSTITUTION: A scanner 10 is provided with a hand type housing 12 whose inside part is divided into an upper half 16 and a lower half 18 by a base 14. A high speed scanning motor 20 is set on the base 14, an U-shaped supporting body 26 is fixed to an output axial part 22 instead of a plane mirror, a laser 1 optical part assembly 28 is fixed to the supporting body 26, and the assembly 28 and the supporting body 26 are shaken and rotated altogether by the axial part 22. The assembly 28 is provided with a hollow slender tube 30, laser diode 32 fixed to one end, lens barrel 34 fixed to the other end, and focusing lens held in the lens barrel 34. An opening through-diaphragm is provided at the end wall of the lens barrel 34, and the lens barrel 34 is fixed in nest type so as to be moved in a vertical direction in the tube 30.
