    Abstract: Water-soluble polymers having K values of from 5 to 100 (determined on the Na salt of the polymers according to H. Fikentscher in aqueous solution at 25.degree.C, a pH of 7 and a concentration of 1% by weight of the Na salt of the polymer) are prepared by polymerizing a monomer mixture of (a) monoethylenically unsaturated C3-C5-monocarboxylic acids and (b) more than 20-100 mol % of monomers which have two or more ethylenically unsaturated double bonds linked via one or more ester or amide functions and which contain one or more -CO-OX groups, where X is one hydrogen equivalent, one alkali metal equivalent or one alkaline earth metal equivalent or an ammonium group, in aqueous solution in the presence of a polymerization initiator, and the polymers are used in amounts of from 0.5 to 25% by weight in detergents and cleaners.

    Abstract: The invention relates to polyelectrolyte complexes of cationic and anionic polymers, comprising (a) cationic condensates of (i) at least one amine and (ii) a cross-linking agent from the group of epihalohydrins, or bishalohydrins of diols, bishalohydrins of polyalkylene glycols, bishalohydrins of polytetrahydrofurans, alkylene dihalides, alkylene trihalides, bis-epoxides, tris-epoxides, tetra-epoxides, and/or mixtures of the above and/or quaternary cationic condensates of (i) and (ii) and (b) anionic compounds with at last three anionic groups and a loading ratio of anionic to cationic polymers of 0.01 to 20. The invention further relates to methods for the production of the polyelctrolyte complexes by means of mixing the cationic condensates (a) with anionic compounds (b).

    Abstract: Water-soluble copolymers which comprise, in copolymerized form, (a) 60 to 99% by weight of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated polyalkylene oxide monomer of the formula I H2C═CR1—X—YR2—OnR3  I  in which the variables have the following meanings: X is —CH2— or —C(O)—, if Y is —O—; is —C(O)—, if Y is —NH—; is —O— or —O—(CH2)4—, if Y is a chemical bond; Y is —O—, —NH— or a chemical bond; R1 is hydrogen or methyl; R2 is C2-C4-alkylene radicals, which may be identical or different and also linear or branched, but where at least 50% of the radicals R2 are ethylene; R3 is C1-C22-alkyl, phenyl, p-(C1-C12-alkyl)phenyl or hydrogen; n is an integer from 6 to 50, (b) 1 to 40% by weight of at least one nonquaternized dipolar monomer comprising at least one nitrogen atom, (c) 0 to 39% by weight of other nonionic monoethylenically unsaturated monomers and (d) 0 to 10% by weight of other anionic monoethylenically unsaturated monomers and have an average molecular weight Mw of from 2000 to 500 000 D, and the use of the copolymers as dispersants and sequestrants for pigmented materials, as additive for detergents, laundry pretreatment compositions, cleaners for hard surfaces, dentifrices and bodycare compositions, and as auxiliaries for textile processes, paper making and paper processing and deinking processes.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to novel modified polyaminoamides which are useful as dispersing agents for particulate inorganic solids, especially for inorganic pigments such as clay minerals. The new polyamides are also useful as graying inhibiting additives and detergency boosting additives in washing composition for laundry. In the modified polyaminoamide according to the invention at least a part of the amino nitrogens of the polymer carry both a hydrocarbon radical R which is selected from C1-C6-alkyl, C6-C16-aryl-C1-C4- alkyl and a group AIk-O-A, wherein A is hydrogen or an acidic group selected from B1-PO(OH)2, B1- S(O)2OH and B2-COOH which may be present in the acidic or anionic form, wherein B1 is a single bond or C1-C6-alkanediyl, and B2 is C1- C6- alkanediyl and Alk is C2-C6-alkane-1,2-diyl, and a moiety of the formula (I) - (CH2-CR1 R2-O-)PA ,wherein A is as defined above R1 is independently selecte d from hydrogen, C1-C12-alkyl, C2-C8-alkenyl, C6-C16-aryl or C6-Ct6-aryl-C1-C4 - alkyl, R2 is independently selected from hydrogen or methyl and p is an integer provided that p has a number average of at least 10.
