Abstract: PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for driving a generator of a vehicle are provide to improve the continued ratio by preventing over-charge of a battery using a circuitry method and a mechanical method at a same time. CONSTITUTION: A clutch(13) couples a pulley(11) of a generator to a rotor(14) or separates the pulley(11) from the rotor(14). A detecting unit(15) detects whether a charge voltage of a battery is over a predetermined reference voltage or not. An electronic control unit(16) operates the clutch(13) so as to separate the pulley(11) from the rotor(14) when the detecting unit(15) detects the charge voltage of the battery over the predetermined reference voltage and couples the pulley(11) to the rotor(14) when the detecting unit(15) detects the charge voltage of the battery less than the predetermined reference voltage.
