Abstract: A catalyst (I) for the gas phase hydrogenation of 4C-dicarboxylic acids and/or derivatives, preferably maleic acid anhydride, comprises copper oxide (20-94 wt.%), palladium and/or a palladium compound (0.005-5 wt.%) and an oxide support (2-79.995 wt.%) comprising oxides of Al, Si, Zn, La, Ce, Group IIIa-VIIIa elements and/or Group IA and II elements. Independent claims are also included for: (i) a process for the production of the catalyst (I) by impregnation of an oxide supported copper oxide catalyst with a solution of a soluble palladium compound, drying and optionally calcining; and (ii) a process for the gas phase hydrogenation of 4C-dicarboxylic acids and/or derivatives, preferably maleic acid anhydride in the presence of the catalyst (I).

Abstract: Procedimiento para la obtención de alquilarilsulfonatos mediante a) reacción de una mezcla de olefinas con 4 átomos de carbono en un catalizador de metátesis para la obtención de una mezcla de olefinas que contiene 2-penteno y/o 3-hexeno, y en caso dado separación de 2-penteno y/o 3-hexeno, b) dimerizado de 2-penteno y/o 3-hexeno obtenido en la etapa a) en presencia de un catalizador de dimerizado para dar una mezcla que contiene olefinas con 10 a 12 átomos de carbono, separación de las olefinas con 10 a 12 átomos de carbono, y separación de un 5 a un 30% en peso, referido a las olefinas separadas con 10 a 12 átomos de carbono, en componentes de bajo punto de ebullición de las olefinas con 10 a 12 átomos de carbono, c) reacción de las mezclas de olefinas con 10 a 12 átomos de carbono obtenidas en la etapa b) con un hidrocarburo aromático en presencia de un catalizador de alquilado para la formación de compuestos alquilaromáticos, pudiéndose añadir antes de la reacción adicionalmente un 0 aun 60% en peso, preferentemente un 0 a un 40% en peso, referido a las mezclas de olefinas con 10 a 12 átomos de carbono, obtenidas en la etapa b), de olefinas lineales, d) sulfonado de compuestos alquilaromáticos obtenidos en la etapa c) y neutralizado para dar alquilarilsulfonatos, pudiéndose añadir antes del sulfonado adicionalmente un 0 a un 60% en peso, preferentemente un 0 a un 50% en peso, referido a los compuestos alquilaromáticos obtenidos en la etapa c), de alquilbencenos lineales, en tanto no se efectúe un mezclado en la etapa c), e) en caso dado mezclado de los alquilarilsulfonatos obtenidos en la etapa d) con un 0 a un 60% en peso, preferentemente un 0 a un 30% en peso, referido a los alquilarilsulfonatos obtenidos en la etapa d), en alquilarilsulfonatos lineales, en tanto no se efectúen mezclados en las etapas c) y d).

Abstract: A process for coproducing alkyl-substituted or unsubstituted THF and pyrrolidones by catalytically hydrogenating C 4 -dicarboxylic acids and/or derivatives thereof in the gas phase in the presence of copper catalysts and reacting GBL with ammonia or primary amines to give pyrrolidones comprises a) hydrogenating C 4 -dicarboxylic acids and/or derivatives thereof in the gas phase at from 200 to 300° C., from 0.1 to 100 bar, catalyst hourly space velocities of from 0.01 to 1 kg of reactant/l of catalyst*hour and reactant/hydrogen molar ratios of from 20 to 800 in the presence of catalysts comprising copper, aluminum and/or zinc to give mixtures of THF and GBL, b) separating the hydrogenation effluent obtained by distillation into a THF/water mixture as the top product and a GBL-containing bottom product, c) separating the THF/water mixture from step b) in a distillation facility consisting of three columns by withdrawing water from the bottom of the first column, recycling water-containing THF from the second into the first column, passing a side stream of the first into the second column, recycling the bottom product of the third column into the first column and withdrawing a distillate at the top of the first column, wherein a side stream of the second column is passed into the third column and the pure THF is obtained as the top product of the third column, d) recovering GBL from the GBL-containing bottom product from step b) by distillation and e) reacting the GBL obtained with ammonia or amines to give corresponding pyrrolidones.

Abstract: Crude water-containing tetrahydrofuran is purified by passing the crude tetrahydrofuran through three distillation columns, withdrawing water from the bottom of the first column, recycling water-containing tetrahydrofuran from the top of the second column into the first column, passing a sidestream of the first column into the second column, recycling the bottom product of the third column into the first column, and withdrawing a distillate at the top of the first column. Additionally, a sidestream of the second column is passed into the third column and the purified tetrahydrofuran is recovered as the top product of the third column.

An independent claim is also included for producing alkylaryl sulfonates by contacting a C4 olefin mixture with a metathesis catalyst to produce an olefin mixture containing 2-pentene and/or 3-hexene; optionally separating the 2-pentene and/or 3-hexene; dimerizing the 2-pentene and/or 3-hexene, optionally together with C4 and/or C7 olefins, in the presence of a dimerization catalyst, to give a C8-C14 olefin mixture; optionally separating the C8-C14 olefins and separating 5-30 wt.% of low boilers; reducing the hydroperoxide content of the C8-C14 olefin mixture as above; optionally adding linear olefins in an amount of 0-60 wt.%; reacting the C8-C14 olefin mixture with aromatics in the presence of an acid catalyst to produce alkylaromatics; optionally adding linear alkylbenzenes in an amount of 0-60 wt.%; sulfonating the alkylaromatics and neutralizing the products to give alkylaryl sulfonates; and optionally mixing the alkylaryl sulfonates with 0-60 wt.% (words missing).

Abstract: In a process for preparing alkylaryl compounds by reacting a C10-14-monoolefin mixture with an aromatic hydrocarbon in the presence of an alkylation catalyst to form alkyl aromatic compounds and if appropriate subsequently sulfonating and neutralizing the resulting alkylaryl compounds, in the C10-14-monoolefins, on average, more than 0% and up to 100% of methyl branches are present in the longest carbon chain and fewer than 50% of the methyl branches are in the 2-, 3- and 4-position, calculated starting from the chain ends of the longest carbon chain.
