    Abstract: The invention relates to a catalyst for the production of polytetrahydrofuran, polytetrahydrofuran copolymers, diesters or monoesters of said polymers by polymerizing tetrahydrofuran in the presence of at least one telogen and/or comonomer, wherein said catalyst is present in the form of catalyst molded bodies or catalyst particles with a volume of the individual molded bodies or particles of at least 0.05mm , preferably at least 0.2mm , more particularly 1mm . Said catalyst has at least one of characteristics a) and b): a) pore radius distribution with at least a maximum pore distribution in the range of 100-5000 A pore radius, b) pore volume of catalyst pores with radii of 200 - 3000 A bigger than 0.05cm /g and/or radii of 200 - 5000 A bigger than 0.075cm /g and/or a radius of > 200 A bigger than 0.1cm /g.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the gas phase hydrogenation of C4 dicarboxylic acids and/or derivatives thereof to give optionally substituted gamma -butyrolactone and/or tetrahydrofuran on a catalyst, based on copper oxide, comprising a first reaction zone, in which the C4 dicarboxylic acid and/or derivatives thereof react to give a mixture mainly containing optionally substituted gamma -butyrolactone and a second zone connected thereto in which the optionally substituted gamma -butyrolactone contained in the mixture from the first hydrogenation stage is reacted to give optionally substituted tetrahydrofuran at a temperature which is lower than the temperature in the first hydrogenation step.
