    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a symbol scanning system which reads a symbol such as the bar code and suitably changes the pattern of a light beam in response to a feedback signal. CONSTITUTION: A symbol scanning system which suitably changes scanning system parameters containing the pattern and focal point of a light beam so as to improve readability of bar codes is provided with a scanner which directs the light beam toward a symbol at a prescribed position in a certain pattern in response to a coordinate control signal, detects the reflected part of the light beam, and generates the feedback signal corresponding to the detected part of the reflected light beam, a microprocessor 10 which generates a pattern control signal in response to the feedback signal, a pattern generator 20 which generates the coordinate control signal and decides a light beam pattern in response to the pattern control signal, and a signal processing circuit including a drive control unit 40A for adjusting the threshold levels of gains, band widths, and a digitizer.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a packet data transmission system connecting the multiple remote portable data collection device of a bar code reader and the like to a central computer maintaining a data base management system. CONSTITUTION: Data packets are sent from a remote device 15 to intermediate base stations 12-14 by an RF(radio frequency) link and are sent to the central computer 10 from the base stations 12-14 by a serial link. Direct sequence spectral diffusion modulation is used for the RF link. The remote portable device starts exchange by using RF transmission with the base stations 12-14 and executes reception only in a strict time frame following transmission from the remote device 15. The base stations 12-14 cannot start communication to the remote device 15 but they transmit data to the remote device 15 as a part of exchange.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a bar code scanning optical scanner and a focal depth expanding method capable of expanding the depth of a focus by using multi- focus distance collecting optical system. CONSTITUTION: The optical scanner is provided with a means for generating a radiation beam for the irradiation of a visual field, the multi-focus distance collecting optical system having at least a 1st lens with a short focal distance and a 2nd lens with a long focal distance and a photodetector 20 for detecting radiation light reflected from the visual field and guided by the optical system and generating an electric output signal and allowed to improve the depth of signal modulation by connecting a high pass filter to the electric output signal of the photodetector 20 so as to pass an electric output signal generated by the detection of a bar code but to filter and remove a DC background electric signal. Thereby it is unnecessary to substantially and directly bring a reader into contact with a code or arrange the reader on the code in order to suitably read out the code because the depth of a focus in a conventional reader especially using an LED/CCD as a base is shallow.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the decoding reliability, read speed, and the degree of freedom of the direction of a bar code reader for linear and two-dimensional bar code symbols by using a piezoelectric bimorph element as the driving element of the optical system of the bar code reader. CONSTITUTION: In several practical examples, a piezoelectric bimorph element 28 is used for the scanning function of the reader or the varifocal zoom function of an optical system.     Abstract: PURPOSE: To easily attain an operation without occupying a space on a desk by hanging a bar code reading device from a ceiling, and adjusting the vertical height. CONSTITUTION: A laser scanning device 10 is supported from a ceiling 12 of a room through an appropriate flexible cable 14, and the height can be adjusted by pulling in and out the cable 14 in a cable length adjuster 16. The laser scanning device 10 can be hanged on a surface 20 of a supporting stand on which a merchandise 22 or the like is placed, and a bar code can be read. Such laser scanning device 10 is hanged from the ceiling and the height can be adjusted so that the merchandise 22 can be operated by both hands without occupying a place.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a high-speed scanning mechanism for the scanner which reads a bar code symbol by swinging a scanning element according to a uniaxial scanning pattern or multiaxial scanning pattern. CONSTITUTION: The light beam emitted by a light source travels through a window 18 along an optical path and impinges on a display to be read, e.g. the bar code symbol. In the scanner 10, an optical detector which has a view area for collecting reflected light returning from the symbol through the window 18, e.g. a photodiode is arranged. The scanning element arranged in the scanner 10 operates to scan the symbol and/or the view area of the optical detector. The scanning element is a light reflector which is arranged in the emission and/or return path and the light reflector is swung by an electric operation type driving means at a specific frequency alternately in the circumferential direction.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent read incapability by making a series of characters present at the end position of one character string and a series of the characters present at the start position of the other character string be the same and preparing a new first character string. CONSTITUTION: A symbol is scanned along a first scanning route, the expression of the characters obtained from scanning is preserved and a first character string is prepared. The symbol is scanned along a second scanning route, the expression of the characters obtained from the scanning is preserved and a second character string is prepared. Then, the first character string and the second character string are processed by making the partial character string of the first character string be the same as the partial character string of the second character string and a long character string is prepared. Then, execution is repeatedly performed until all the characters of the long character string are correct characters and a complete symbol is constituted. Thus, the generation of the read incapability is prevented.
