    Abstract: Aqueous lipid emulsions for providing enteral nutrition are provided. The aqueous lipid emulsions include at least 33% of lipids, lipid soluble nutrients, or a combination thereof, based upon the total weight of the emulsion, and are essentially free of carbohydrate and protein. The aqueous lipid emulsions are shelf-stable for at least 7 months. The aqueous lipid emulsions are a source of supplemental enteral nutrition for any patient in need thereof, including preterm infants.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a lipid system, and methods for using such a lipid system, containing specific relative ratios of omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9 fatty acids. The lipid system may be used independently or as a component of a nutritional product. A lipid system according to the present invention may contain omega-3 fatty acids, omega-6 fatty acids, and omega-9 fatty acids with the ratio of omega-6 fatty acids to omega-3 fatty acids preferably being between 0.25:1 and 3:1, and the ratio of omega-9 fatty acids to omega-3 fatty acids preferably being between 0.4:1 and 3:1. The present invention also relates to methods for administering a lipid system or a nutritional product containing the lipid system to an individual.

    Abstract: Disclosed embodiments provide methods and compositions for improving the metabolic health of consumers. Bovine beta-casein, a major component of milk from cattle, has many genetic variants. Certain genetic variants, A1 in particular, have been associated with type 1 diabetes. The disclosed methods and compositions include reduced amounts of genetic variants of beta-casein that have been associated with diabetes. In some embodiments, the compositions display improved emulsions due to the solubility and hydrophobicity of the genetic variants of beta-casein used therein.

    Abstract: A nutritional composition comprises fat, protein and carbohydrate such that the fat provides from about 60 to about 90 % of the total calories of the composition, the protein provides from about 10 to about 30 % of the total calories of the composition, and the carbohydrate provides from about 0.1 to about 15 % of the total calories of the composition, and the composition comprises from about 0.01 to about 10 wt % beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB). A method of achieving or sustaining metabolic ketosis in an individual comprises administering the nutritional composition to the individual. A method of maintaining lean body mass and muscle strength in an individual during dietary ketosis comprises administering the nutritional composition to the individual.
