Abstract: PURPOSE: To stabilize long-time use without deteriorating magnetic characteristics by constituting a magnetic recording carrier of a polymer binder and ferromagnetic chromium dioxide finely dispersed into customarily used additives and additionally incorporating a multiple unsatd. org. compd. monomer specified in its content into the chromium dioxide. CONSTITUTION: The magnetic recording medium is mainly composed of a nonmagnetic carrier material, the polymer binder and the intrinsically ferromagnetic chromium dioxide finely dispersed into the customarily used additives and 0.1 to 8wt.% multiple unsatd. org. compd. monomer is additionally incorporated into the chromium dioxide. The monomer is a monomer having at least three double bonds per molecule, for which one kind of the compd. selected from a group consisting of linolenic acid or oil or oil-fatty acid mixture is used. More specifically, alcohol, acid, ester, diglyceride, 2,4-hexadienic acid, herring oil, sardine oil, etc., are used as the multiple unsatd. org. compd. to accelerate dispersion.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To make it possible to obtain a dispersion which is excellent in a dispersion treatment by preparing this dispersion by stirring spherical frictional grinding media having a sp. gr. smaller than the sp. gr. of a magnetic material at a specific number of revolutions in a cylindrical hermetic frictional grinding vessel of a specific size. CONSTITUTION: This dispersion is prepd. by stirring the spherical frictional grinding media, which have the ratio of a length to diameter of 1.3 to 2.5:1, have the sp. gr. smaller than the sp. gr. of the magnetic material and have a diameter from 0.5 to 3mm in the cylindrical hermetic frictional grinding vessel loaded with these media by an anchor mixer or spiral mixer at 50 to 1000R.P.M. As a result, the magnetic material is treated extremely gently treated without damaging the acicular crystals in the shortest possible dispersion treatment time, by which the homogeneous and stable dispersion is obtd.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the surface treatment by moving a polishing means in the feeding direction or the reverse direction of a continuously forwarded recording medium at a specific relative speed to the speed of this recording medium. CONSTITUTION: The recording medium 1 is moved from the feeding position 2 to the take-up position 3 at a speed of 40-60m/min, and a polishing tape 4 is moved from a storage reel 5 to a take-up reel 6 for treating the surface of layer. A supporting element 7 is arranged between two reels, and on this supporting element 7, the recording medium 1 is brought into contact with the polishing tape 4 having the particle dimension of 1-20μm by the jet stream of gas from a slot nozzle 8. At this time, the satisfied effect is obtained when the polishing tape 4 is moved relatively against the recording medium 1 at a speed faster than twice the speed of this medium 1, preferrably 10-200 times.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the weatherability of a magnetic film by incorporating specific hydrocarbon into a magnetizable layer at a specific ratio of a magnetizable material. CONSTITUTION: The magnetizable layer contains hydrocarbon of carbon atomicity of 16 to 40 having 3 to 10 pieces of satd. branch positions at a ratio of 0.1 to 2.0wt.% of the weight of the magnetizable material. The more preferable hydrocarbon is such that polyisobutene of carbon atomicity of 16 to 32 having 4 to 8 pieces of the satd. branch positions and more particularly, the polyisobutene of carbon atomicity of 22 to 28 having 5 to 7 pieces of the satd. branch positions occupy therein at least up to 60%. As a result, the weatherability is improved.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To exhibit excellent stability to the deterioration of magnetic characteristics by forming a magnetic recording carrier of a nonmagnetic carrying material, polymer binder and magnetic material consisting of chromium dioxide as chief materials and forming a specific magnetizable layer on the carrying material. CONSTITUTION: This magnetic recording carrier is formed of the nonmagnetic carrying material, the polymer binder and the magnetic material consisting of the chromium dioxide as the chief materials and the magnetizable layer adhered on the carrying material. One kind of the org. compds. selected from a group consisting of steric hindrance phenol, cresol, arom. amine, benztriazole, triazine deriv., phosphorus-contg. acid ester, phenolic phosphate, its metal salt, benzophenone, substd. phenyl ester benzoate and thioacid alkyl ester are additionally incorporated into the magnetizable layer at 0.1 to 8wt.% of the weight of the chromium dioxide. As a result, the magnetic recording carrier exhibits the improved stability to the chemical decomposition by moisture and oxidative compds. without entailing the deterioration of the magnetic characteristics.
