Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a fuel additive composition containing (i) a polyether alcohol of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group of 1 to about 30 carbon atoms; R.sup.1 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group of 1 to 5 carbon atoms or mixtures thereof provided that no more than 10 mole % of R.sup.1 is hydrogen and where the polyether alcohol is soluble in gasoline; and x is a number from about 4 to about 40; (ii) a hydrocarbylphenol having 1-3 hydrocarbyl groups such that the total weight average molecular weight of the hydrocarbyl groups is about 250 to about 6000; and (iii) optionally a third component containing a nitrogen-containing dispersant; wherein the weight ratio of the polyether alcohol to the hydrocarbylphenol is about 3:1 to about 1:20. The compositions are useful in reducing intake valve deposit and do not contribute to the increase in combustion chamber deposit in port fuel injected engines.
Abstract:
The invention provides certain carbonates which have been prepared by reacting alkylamines with dialkylcarbonates and/or alkylene carbonates, and their use as friction reducing additives in fuels and lubes.
Abstract:
Multiple amide polyether alcohol compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbyl of 2 to 100 carbon atoms and substituted hydrocarbyl of 2 to 100 carbon atoms; R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbyl of 1 to 100 carbon atoms, substituted hydrocarbyl of 1 to 100 carbon atoms and polyoxyalkylene alcohol of 2 to 200 carbon atoms; R.sub.5 is selected from the group consisting of alkylene of 2 to 20 carbon atoms and alkylene of 2 to 20 carbon atoms having at least one methylene group replaced by at least one oxygen atom or at least one acylated nitrogen atom; x and y are each from 1 to 50 and the weight average molecular weight of the additive compound is greater than about 600 when used as gasoline additives are found to decrease intake valve deposits.

Abstract:
Beta-carotene, chlorophyll and jojoba oil are used together as a fuel additive to enhance combustion characteristics of carbonaceous fuels. Among the observed beneficial characteristics are reductions in the level of common pollutants emitted during combustion. Ethoxylated castor oil is also used in conjunction with the beta-carotene, chlorophyll and jojoba oil to provide enhanced combustion characteristics and reductions in pollutant emissions.
Abstract:
The effectiveness is prolonged for catalytic oxidizers to reduce emissions of both HC and CO from two-stroke gasoline engines. A compound of a platinum group metal is added to the cylinder of the engine, to make it available as an active oxidation catalyst by combustion of the fuel. Preferably, the platinum group metal compound is added with the lubricating oil, but can be added to the fuel or through a separate injection.

The invention provides certain iminoacetamides which have been prepared by reacting alkylamines with acetoacetamides, and their use as friction reducing additives in fuels and lubes.
Abstract:
Combustion chamber deposits and intake valve deposits in a spark ignition internal combustion engine which uses a liquid hydrocarbon or liquid hydrocarbon-oxygenate fuel, by using an unleaded fuel to which has been added an additive selected from the group consisting of low boiling alkyl pyridines, 4-vinylpyridine, DMF, N-formylpiperidine, sulfolane, polyolefin, polyether or polyether amine derivatives of DMF, amidene, or N-substituted-2 pyrrolidones, polyolefin in an amount of at least about 1,000 wppm and mixtures thereof. Functionalized polymer detergents can be used alone and added to the fuels in amounts in of about at least 3,000 wppm.
Abstract:

Abstract:
The low temperature properties of a blend of biofuel and petroleum-based fuel oil are improved by the addition of an ethylene-unsaturated ester copolymer, or a comb polymer, or a polar N compound, or a compound having at least one linear alkyl groups connected to a non-polymeric organic residue.
Abstract:
A composition of an oil of lubricating viscosity; a polymer, soluble in the lubricant composition and having a number average molecular weight of greater than 50,000; and a combustible solvent in which the remaining components of the lubricant are soluble, provides a composition suitable for lubricating a two-stroke cycle engine. The lubricant composition provides good lubricity with low smoke generation.
