Abstract: A spray nozzle assembly is provided with an electrode, a wear resistant member, and a compliant sleeve. The wear resistant member supports the electrode and is supported by the compliant sleeve. For coating operations that use abrasive powder such as porcelain enamel, the wear resistant member may comprise ceramic. The compliant sleeve may be made of an elastic material such as plastic, which allows one end of the compliant sleeve to receive an end of a glass powder tube. The wear resistant member may be in the form of a ceramic spider. The electrode may be installed in-line with a powder flow path defined by the powder tube, which extends through a spray gun body.

Abstract: Spraying heads may be used in spray guns for applying a pressurized aerosol material in the form of jets or spray. A spraying nozzle for spraying a polyurethane material includes a cylindrical body provided, on a first end, with a base having a mounting aperture extending into the cylindrical body, forming a cavity for arranging a head of a gun. The base of the nozzle is in the form of oppositely-disposed leaves. A second end of the body is provided with a cylindrical shoulder, a through-bore of which is communicated with a V-shaped and laterally non-closed recess at the region of an outlet of the sprayed material. Oppositely arranged plate-like protrusions adjoin a lateral surfaces of the cylindrical shoulder. A mounting aperture end which adjoins the base has a circumferential cut. The spraying nozzle is provided with an attachment means used when in an inoperative position.

Abstract: A selectively configurable spray gun may include a gun body comprising a selectable forward section and a rearward section. The rearward section may be connected with either of two or more selectable forward sections so as to selectively configure the spray gun to operate either with a dense phase powder supply configuration or a with dilute phase powder supply configuration. The rearward section may include a selectable powder flow path that is connectable at an inlet end to a source of dense phase powder and at an outlet end to a selectable spray nozzle in the selectable forward section that may optionally include a diffuser. An adapter may be used to connect the rearward section with a selectable spray nozzle or air cap. A manual spray gun embodiment is also presented. A selectively configurable spray gun for use with a dense phase powder supply may include a smaller diameter powder tube that extends through a larger diameter powder tube.

Abstract: An integrated liquidjet system capable of stripping, prepping and coating a part includes a cell defining an enclosure, a jig for holding the part inside the cell, an ultrasonic nozzle having an ultrasonic transducer for generating a pulsed liquidjet, a coating particle source for supplying coating particles to the nozzle, a pressurized liquid source for supplying the nozzle with a pressurized liquid to enable the nozzle to generate the pulsed liquidjet to sequentially strip, prep and coat the part, a high-voltage electrode and a ground electrode inside the nozzle for charging the coating particles, and a human-machine interface external to the cell for receiving user commands and for controlling the pulsed liquidjet exiting from the nozzle in response to the user commands.

Abstract: An apparatus for feeding powder particles includes a hopper holding a supply of powder. A voltage supply is in electrical communication with a first electrode and a second electrode. The hopper is configured to drop powder onto the first electrode. The voltage supply is capable of producing an electric potential between the first electrode and second electrode and causing the powder particles landing on the first electrode to develop a surface charge. The second electrode is positioned remotely from the first electrode such that the electric field between the first electrode and the second electrode causes the powder particles that fall onto the first electrode to move off the first electrode and move toward the second electrode. The powder particles moving toward the second electrode may or may not reach the electrode, but in either case drop away from the second electrode due to the force of gravity.

Abstract: A system and method for forming a part via additive manufacturing and powder coating the part. The system comprises an additive manufacturing system and a powder coating system. The additive manufacturing system includes a frame, support surface, material reserve, feeder, material applicator, a set of motors, and a processor. The additive manufacturing system produces a part core formed of a non-conductive low melting point material according to a computer aided design. The powder coating system includes a primer applicator, powder coating applicator, and curing apparatus. The material applicator applies a conductive primer to an outer surface of the part core. The conductive primer is then air dried. The powder coating applicator applies an electrostatically charged powder coating to the conductive primer. The curing apparatus then cures the powder coating and conductive primer without the temperature of the core of the part reaching the non-conductive low melting point material melting point.

Abstract: Control method and apparatus for a manual spray gun includes display that is disposed on the spray gun and that provides information to an operator about one or more coating operation parameters. An auxiliary trigger may be used that enables an operator to makes selections of one or more coating operation parameters. The display and auxiliary trigger together permit an operator to make selections without having to divert attention or field of view away from the spray gun or the coating area, especially during a coating operation.
