    Abstract: The present invention provides a process for dimerisation of levulinic acid, wherein an organic phase comprising levulinic acid is contacted, in the presence of hydrogen, with a strong acidic heterogeneous catalyst comprising a hydrogenating metal, at a temperature in the range of from 60 to 170° C. and a pressure in the range of from 1 to 200 bar (absolute). The invention further relates to dimers of levulinic acid and their esters, to a mixture comprising levulinic acid and its dimers obtainable by such process and to an ester mixture obtainable by esterifying such mixture of levulinic acid and its dimers.

    Abstract: An emulsion fuel oil additive to be mixed with a fuel oil and a water for forming an emulsion fuel oil is disclosed. The emulsion fuel oil additive includes an emulsion reagent for forming an water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion fuel oil with the fuel oil and the water, a combustion-assisting reagent for improving ignition and combustion of the emulsion fuel oil, a stabilization reagent for forming an interface membrane between the fuel oil and the water by a chemical reaction at a specific temperature, a promotion reagent for promoting emulsification of the fuel oil and the water and promoting the interface membrane formation by the stabilization reagent, and an antioxidant reagent for preventing deterioration of the emulsion fuel oil during storage.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a diesel fuel composition containing an additive composition made by admixing at least two components: A) at least one dicarboxylic acid having about 8 to about 500 carbon atoms or a reactive equivalent thereof; and B) at least one amine having about 6 to about 80 carbon atoms. In one embodiment, the additive composition also contains: C) at least one monocarboxylic acid of about 8 to about 28 carbon atoms or a reactive equivalent thereof. The additive composition is useful as a lubricity additive for diesel fuel, especially low sulfur diesel fuel and provide excellent storage stability, rust-inhibiting and anti-wear performance to diesel fuel.

    Abstract: Carbonyl compounds, such as ketones, aldehydes, esters, amides, anhydrides and carboxylic acids are added to a material, particularly a liquid material as markers. Subsequently the carbonyl compound(s) are identified by measuring the absorbency peak(s) of the carbonyl compounds in the mid-IR range. Carbonyl compounds soluble in non-polar solvents and substantially insoluble in water are particularly suitable for tagging and identifying petroleum fuels. For use in petroleum fuels, the carbonyl compound(s) preferably contains no element other than carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen. Digital carbonyl marker systems, i.e., systems containing two or more carbonyl compounds in predetermined ratios, can be determined quantitatively with instruments, such as SpecTrace.TM. which measure absorbance in the mid-IR region.
