Abstract:
Ion filter for FAIMS fabricated using the LIGA technique. The ion filter is manufactured using a metal layer to form the ion channels and an insulating support layer to hold the structure rigidly together after separation of the metal layer into two electrodes.
Abstract:
A method of ion mobility spectrometry wherein ions undergo multiple stages of ion mobility separation and multiple stages of inertial ion motion wherein the mean free path between ion collisions with gas is significantly longer than in the stages of ion mobility separation, wherein each stage of inertial ion motion lies between successive stages of ion mobility separation.
Abstract:
The present invention generally relates to systems and methods for transmitting beams of charged particles, and in particular to such systems and methods that employ defecting at least one set of grid elements into the same plane to form an ion gate. In addition, an operation method of closing a gate involving alternating voltages on the adjacent gate wires is described.
Abstract:
A method of reflecting ions in a multireflection time of flight mass spectrometer is disclosed. The method includes guiding ions toward an ion mirror having multiple electrodes, and applying a voltage to the ion mirror electrodes to create an electric field that causes the mean trajectory of the ions to intersect a plane of symmetry of the ion mirror and to exit the ion mirror, wherein the ion are spatially focussed by the mirror to a first location and temporally focused to a second location different from the first location. Apparatus for carrying out the method is also disclosed.
Abstract:
An ion source is disclosed comprising a nebuliser and a target. The nebuliser is arranged and adapted to emit, in use, a stream of analyte droplets which are caused to impact upon the target and to ionise analyte to form a plurality of analyte ions. The target is vibrated by a piezo-electric vibration device to reduce the size of resultant secondary droplets.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides methods and systems for automated tuning of multimode inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometers (ICP-MS). In certain embodiments, a ‘single click’ optimization method is provided for a multi-mode ICP-MS system that automates tuning of the system in one or more modes selected from among the multiple modes, e.g., a vented cell mode, a reaction cell mode (e.g., dynamic reaction cell mode), and a collision cell mode (e.g., kinetic energy discrimination mode). Workflows and computational routines, including a dynamic range optimization technique, are presented that provide faster, more efficient, and more accurate tuning.
Abstract:
There is provided a mass spectrometry apparatus comprising: an ion source arranged in a substantially horizontal orientation and from which a quantity of ions may be sourced, an ion filter device arranged for receiving a stream of ions for filtering thereof; and, an ion guide arranged so as to guide ions sourced from the ion source toward the ion filter device. The ion source and the ion filter device are arranged relative to one another so that the profile of the apparatus is reduced so as to minimize the effective footprint of the apparatus.
Abstract:
There is provided an ion deflector for use with a mass spectrometer for directing a flow of ions between two distinct axes of travel. The ion deflector includes an electric field inducer arranged so as to establish at least one electrostatic field capable of deflecting ions travelling substantially along a first intended path of travel so as to travel substantially along a second intended path of travel.

Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for determining a mobility of ions. The method includes the steps of modulating an ion beam with an ion gate which is controlled by a modulation function for generating a modulated ion beam, of guiding the modulated ion beam through a drifting region, of measuring a signal of the modulated ion beam after the modulated ion beam has passed the drifting region and of calculating a correlation of the modulation function and the signal in order to determine the mobility of the ions. The apparatus includes the ion gate, the drifting region through which the modulated ion beam is guidable, a detector by which the signal of the modulated ion beam is measurable after the modulated ion beam has passed the drifting region and a calculation unit by which the correlation of the modulation function and the signal is calculable in order to determine the mobility of the ions. An autocorrelation of the modulation function is a two-valued function.
