Abstract:
An adjustable shroud for use with a detector having an aperture for detecting electromagnetic radiation. The adjustable shroud includes a base element, a cover element and a directional shroud. The cover element and the directional shroud may be adjusted over an aperture of a detector to increase and/or decrease a detection field associated with the detector. The user is easily able to configure the adjustable shroud to block a portion of a detection field associated with the detector to eliminate unwanted environment factors.
Abstract:
A device for measuring the output of an LED with a detector under different distance conditions without requiring the movement of either the LED or the detector. An exemplary embodiment of the present invention implements the testing conditions specified in CIE 127 allowing the determination of Averaged LED Intensity at the specified distances of 100 mm and 316 mm while keeping the physical distance between the LED and the detector fixed at the shorter distance of 100 mm. The exemplary embodiment comprises an optical element that can be selectively inserted into the optical path between the LED and the detector to make the separation appear to be the longer of the two distances. The optical element comprises a lens assembly and a detector aperture that creates a virtual image of the detector aperture at the longer of the two distances. The detector aperture is dimensioned so that the virtual image of the detector aperture has the area required by the standard.

Measured data also may be stored and/or organized as part of a patient data base. Such methods and implements may be desirably utilized for purposes of detecting and preventing counterfeiting or the like.
Abstract:
An uncooled thermal matrix detector having a given spectral sensitivity range and being formed from pixels which are thermally insulated from each other, each pixel including an absorbing element which is thermosensitive in the spectral sensitivity range. The thermal matrix detector also includes on its face, turned toward the incident radiation to be detected, of each thermosensitive absorbing element, a biperiodic grating of elementary blocks limiting the viewing angle of the detector, the pitch of the grating being less than the mean wavelength of the spectral sensitivity range. The thermal matrix detector can be applied to so-called BLIP uncooled thermal detectors.
Abstract:
Plural photodetectors for receiving light and generating detection signals. A light amount controlling portion is arranged above the photodetectors for controlling an amount of the light to the photodetectors according to an incident angle. A weighting portion for weighting sensitivities of the photodetectors respectively. The sensitivities are weighted to provide a total output characteristic of the weighted detection signals of which magnitude varies according to the incident angle. Weighting is provided by a signal processing circuit by controlling gains, or a translucent film on the photodetectors for controlling transparencies portions above respective photodetectors, or opaque films on the photodetectors for controlling amounts of the light to respective photodetectors. A first function signal may be obtained from a part of photodetectors for an air conditioner and a second function signal may be obtained from all of photodetectors for head lamp on/off controlling. Each coaxially arranged photodetector is divided to provide a semicircle or a semi-ring shape arranged with respect to the front direction of the vehicle to provide orientation angle data to control the air conditioner.

Abstract:
An arrangement for detecting an electromagnetic energy such as ambient light is provided with a photodetector having an input for receiving electromagnetic energy, and an output for producing an electrical characteristic responsive to the electromagnetic energy. A hollow conduit having a first end is arranged to receive a portion of the ambient electromagnetic energy, and a second end thereof is arranged in the vicinity of the photodector input. Thus, a portion of the received potion of the ambient electromagnetic energy impinges upon the photodetector input. The first end of the hollow conduit is terminated at a predetermined angle with respect to an axis of the first end, and a diffuser is optionally disposed in the vicinity of the first end of the hollow conduit. A light blocker arranged in the vicinity of the first end of the hollow conduit to modulate the received portion of the electromagnetic energy, whereby the received portion of the electromagnetic energy has a magnitude that varies in response to the direction of incidence thereof with respect to the axis of the first end. The hollow conduit has a highly polished interior surface, or any other surface finish, and may be adapted to impart a predetermined spectral characteristic to the portion of the received portion of the electromagnetic energy that impinges upon same. The predetermined spectral characteristic corresponds, in certain embodiments, to a predetermined spectral response of a human eye.
Abstract:
A colorimeter capable of calibrating color monitors, whether having cathode ray tube or liquid crystal (LCD) displays, is provided by a photometric array of photodetector and optical filter pairs. The filters include long-pass, edge filters which cover overlapping regions at the upper end of the visible spectrum and a filter which covers the entire visible spectrum. The outputs of the photodetectors are digitally synthesized to provide a response which mimics the response established by the Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) xyz (bar) functions almost perfectly. The response which is mimicked may be represented by the CIE color matching functions. The pairs and the associated components are mounted on a printed circuit board captured in a clamshell housing and having an array of apertures which define angularly constrained fields of view of a surface from which the light, to be colormetrically analyzed, emanates. The colorimeter is capable generally of measuring the color characteristics, especially the color temperatures of radiation radiating and reflecting bodies (sources), including so-called black bodies.
