Abstract:
A closed space is formed in a reduced pressure drying station, and the closed space is brought to a vacuum state. In this state, an EB unit irradiates a wafer mounted on a hot plate with an electron beam to foam an insulating film material. Subsequently, the hot plate is raised to a predetermined temperature, and drying processing is performed under a reduced pressure. As described above, since the foaming processing is performed in the reduced pressure drying station, bubbles remain in the insulating film, so that the existence of the bubbles can decrease the relative dielectric constant.
Abstract:
Process for the production of powder finishes on metallic or non-metallic surfaces, characterized in that powder coating compositions are used which contain resins which may be crosslinked by means of functional groups capable of forming hydrogen bonds, wherein the functional groups are present at a concentration of greater than 100 mmol/kg of powder coating composition, the powder coating compositions are applied to the substrate and are melted and cured by NIR irradiation.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are provided for improving the durability of lubricating layers on the surfaces of disks. The lubricating layers on the disks are exposed to ultraviolet and infrared radiation of sufficient duration and energy to reduce the total thickness of the layer but retain at least about 40% of the thickness of the remaining layer in bonded form. The useable lifetime of the lubricating surface is prolonged by treatment of the lubricating layer in this manner.
Abstract:
A molding station for molding a colored product of a synthetic resin mixed with a colorant and a coating station for applying a colored clear coat to the surface of the molded colored product are disposed adjacent to each other for highly efficient production of colored clear coated, molded colored products. The molded colored product is charged directly from the molding station into the coating station. The hue of the molded colored product and the hue of the colored clear coat are seen as mixed to the eye. A plurality of hues may be available for each of the colorant and the colored clear coat, so that a variety of hues can be achieved on colored products by a combination of hues of the colorant and the colored clear coat without maintaining a large stock or inventory of different colorants or colored clear coats. The facility required to color the above products is relatively small in size, and the coloring processes are composed of a relatively small number of steps in comparison to conventional apparatus and methods.
Abstract:
Wood is electrostatically coated with a thermosetting powder coating system in which a mixture of a self-curing epoxy resin and a catalyst therefore is extruded and a low temperature curing agent are both pulverized and the powders are blended with conventional additives to make a coating powder which is deposited on a wooden substrate and heated to cure. The mixture of resin and catalyst does not cure within the extruder but it is made to cure at low temperatures by the separate addition of the curing agent. A small amount of the low temperature curing agent, insufficient to cause substantial curing during extrusion may be used in place of the catalyst.
Abstract:
This invention embodies the process and apparatus for applying a fluorocarbon coating or film to a metal or other material surface of a substrate, and particularly for applying such coating to the hull of a ship, or to other objects to be submerged in fresh or saltwater, to protect their surfaces from corrosion, and/or from fouling by marine organisms, and to improve the aqueous slip of a vessel during the period the object will be exposed to either aqueous, atmospheric, or other environments; and to protect virtually any substrate surface from virtually any environmental or man-made hazard. This process utilizes a laser that generates an infrared laser beam, such as, but not limited to a carbon derived gas type laser, to assist in the preparation for and attachment of a film or coating to a prepared substrate surface.
Abstract:
Method including painting a water-based paint onto an article to obtain a water-based paint coat, initially predrying the water-based paint coat by heating with far infrared rays, further predrying the water-based coat by heating with hot air, and thereafter painting either water-based paint or oil-based paint on top of the water-based paint coat. The article can be forcibly cooled with cold air after the further predrying step. The apparatus includes a front-stage paint booth for painting therein a water-based paint to obtain the water-based paint coat, a first predrying chamber in line with and after the front-stage paint booth and having devices for heating with far infrared rays, a second predrying chamber in line with and after the first predrying chamber and having devices for heating with hot air, and a rear-stage paint booth in line with and after the second predrying chamber for painting therein either the water-based paint or the oil-based paint.
Abstract:
Apparatus for practicing the process of the present invention includes a flashing section which emits high-velocity, hot air onto the substrate, and a drying and curing section disposed downstream of the flashing section which emits high-velocity, hot air and radiant energy onto the substrate. The flashing and drying/curing sections are fluidically connected to an exhaust duct disposed upstream of the flashing section whereby the spent hot air, and entrained volatiles, are exhausted and recirculated for subsequent flashing and drying/curing process steps. The flashing section comprises air knives having their exhaust directions inclined in the upstream direction toward the exhaust duct, and fresh ambient air may also enter the exhaust stream from a downstream position so as to alter the percentage of volatiles within the recirculated air stream.
Abstract:
Process for coating the surface of materials such as wood and plasterboard with a thermoplastic material, e.g. polypropylene, by spreading a layer of the thermoplastic material in powdered form over the surface to be coated, subjecting the spread surface to heating by infrared radiation until the thermoplastic material is softened and, before the thermoplastic material has had time to harden, applying pressure to the spread surface so as to cause fusion of the thermoplastic particles, and causing or allowing the resulting thermoplastic coating to set.
