Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely obtain the subject compound, by adding a hydroxyl group- containing compound to an alkyne, etc., in the presence of a roentgenamorph zinc silicate catalyst, etc. SOLUTION: A compound of the formula R OH (R is H, an aliphatic or alicyclic group) is added to an acetylene or allene of formula I or formula II (R is H, an aliphatic or alicyclic group) in a gas phase by using a catalyst containing a zinc silicate as an active ingredient obtained by precipitation from an aqueous solution comprising a soluble silicon compound and zinc compound to give the objective compound of formula III or formula IV ((m) is 0 or 1). The zinc silicate is X-ray amorphous zinc silicate of the formula Zna Sic Oa+2c-0.5e (OH)e .fH2 O ((e) is a value from 0 to 2a+2c; a/c is 1-3.5 and f/a is 0 to 200) and/or a crystal zinc silicate having a hemimorphite structure of the formula Zn4 Si2 O7 ) (OH)2 .H2 O. Zinc exists in a deficient amount or an excessive amount of 25% in terms of stoichiometric composition.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an unsaturated ketone which is an intermediate for synthesizing a useful flavor and a natural substance by reacting isopropenyl ether with a ketal of acetone with propene, etc., in the reaction between an allyl alcohol and isopropenyl ether. SOLUTION: An allyl alcohol of formula I (R to R are each H, an alkyl, an alkenyl or the like) or a propargyl alcohol of formula II is reacted with an isopropenyl ether of formula III (R is 1-4C alkyl) with forming a ketal of formula IV to give unsaturated ketones of formula V and formula VI. The isopropenyl ether of the formula III is obtained by reacting the ketal of formula IV with propyne or allylene or its mixture in a vapor phase at a raised temperature in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst containing silicon or oxygen and zinc or cadmium. The ketal of the formula IV is resupplied for producing the isopropenyl ether of the formula III.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound in a short time without generating a coupling product and effectively utilizing the starting substances by reacting a specific cyclopentene with formic acid in the presence of an acidic catalyst. SOLUTION: The objective cyclopentyl formate of the formula II is produced by reacting (A) 1mol of a cyclopentene compound of the formula I (R1 to R3 are each H or a 1-8C alkyl, preferably a 1-4C alkyl) with (B) 0.1-25mol of formic acid in the presence of (C) 0.0001-25mol of an acidic catalyst (e.g. a Lewis acid) at -80 to +200 deg.C, preferably 35-80 deg.C. The component A is available as a 5C stream from a cracking apparatus or an oil refinery plant. Cyclopentyl formate is useful as a production raw material for cyclopentanol.

Abstract: Preparation of protected aldehydes and ketones of formulae (I) and (II) comprises addition of alcohols of formula (III) to acetylenes or allenes of formulae (IV) and (V) in the gas phase at elevated temperatures in the presence of a heterogeneous, X-ray amorphic zinc or cadmium silicates. The content of zinc or cadmium, calculated as the oxide, is 1-40 wt.%. The catalyst is prepared by bringing a zinc or cadmium salt and an organic acid (which decomposes at below 400 degrees C) into contact with amorphic silica. Formation of the catalyst takes place at 50-500 degrees C in the presence of an OH-containing compound selected from water, 1-10C alkanols, 2-6C diols or triols or 1-6C carboxylic acids. R1OH (III) (R)2C=C=C(R)2 (V) R1 = H or aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group or acyl (all optionally containing inert substituents); R = H or aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic groups (which optionally join together to form rings); and m = 0 or 1.
