    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient and compact optical system for full color high resolution projection type display using a reflective double-refracting spatial light modulator such as a liquid crystal light valve. SOLUTION: This optical system is provided with reflective double-refracting light valves 26-28, a polarized beam splitter 22, color image coupling prisms 30-32, a lighting system 18, a projection lens 38, color/contrast control filters 43-46 and a screen 39 arranged in constitution to provide an advantage of high resolution color display. This optical system is provided with a quarter wavelength plate 48 arranged to suppress stray reflection from the projection lens 38. This optical system is also provided with a second quarter wavelength plate 50 arranged at the screen 39, and a polarizing film 52 arranged at the second quarter wavelength plate 50 so as to restrain the light in the surroundings from illuminating the screen 39 and entering the optical system.

    Abstract: An optical system is described consisting of reflection birefringent light valves, polarizing beam splitter, color image combining prisms, illumination system, projection lens, filters for color and contrast control, and screen placed in a configuration offering advantages for a high resolution color display. In particular, the present invention includes a color splitting prism assembly having a plurality of output faces through which a separate color component is directed to be reflected by a respective light valve. Color absorbing filters are disposed at each of the output faces to absorb the color components not corresponding to the color directed through each output face.

    Abstract: This invention relates to three dimensional packaging of integrated circuit chips into stacks to form cube structures. Between adjacent chips in the stack, there is disposed an electrical interconnection means which is a first substrate having a plurality of conductors one end of which is electrically connected to chip contact locations and the other end of which extends to one side of the chip stack to form a plurality of pin-like electrical interconnection assemblies. The pin-like structures can be formed from projections of the first substrate having an electrical conductor on at least one side thereof extending from this side. Alternatively, the pin-like structures can be formed from conductors which cantilever from both sides of an edge of the first substrate corresponding conductors from both sides are aligned and spaced apart by the first substrate thickness. The spaces contains solder and form solder loaded pin-like structures. The pin-like structures can be directly solder bonded to conductors on a second substrate surface or the pin-like structures can be adapted for insertion into apertures in a second substrate. The second substrate provides a means for electrically interconnecting a plurality of these cubes. Preferably, the first and second substrates are circuitized flexible polymeric films. The second substrate is disposed on a third substrate, such as a PC board, with a resilient material therebetween which permits a heat sink to be pressed into intimate contact with an opposite side of the cube.

    Abstract: A hitch feeder for a TAB tape is described which comprises: a stationary jaw assembly (12) having opposing jaws for gripping edges of the tape when closed, and not gripping the edges when open; a movable gripping assembly (10) which includes a lower movable gripper positioned below the tape (22) and an upper movable gripper positioned above the tape. The lower and upper movable grippers may be moved both towards and away from the tape, each said movable gripper gripping the tape when moved towards it and releasing the tape when moved away from it. Both grippers are physically clear of any features on the tape when moved away from it. A tape feeder is provided for reciprocally moving the movable gripper assembly along the tape length, both towards and away from the stationary jaw assembly. A feed control is operative when the movable gripping assembly moves towards the stationary jaw assembly, to move the gripper jaws to grip the tape and to open the opposing jaws, and is further operative when the movable gripper assembly moves away from the stationary jaw assembly, to move the gripper jaws away from the tape and to close the opposing jaws.
