In this case, delimitation of a light-transmissive region (14) arranged between the test element (1) and the detector (12) is effected by a delimiting element (15) having a light-opaque region (16), the delimiting element (15) being positioned relative to the light source (11, 17) and the detector (12) in such a way th at light scattered or reflected at an analysis region (22) of a test element (1) that is arranged in the test element receptacle (13) in an incorrect position in the Z direction essentially impinges on the light-opaque region (16) and does not reach the detector (12), and by comparison of the detection signals with at least one predetermined limit value for identifying an incorrect position in the Z direction in the case where the limit value is undershot.

Abstract: The invention relates to a hand-held analysis device which is used to examin e a sample, in particular a biological fluid, with respect to a medically significant component. Said hand-held analysis device also comprises, respectively, an opening (13,14) which is arranged on at least one front side of the cartridge (6) which can be closed by means of a sealing film (17), a receiving device (16) which is use d to receive one of the analytical consumption means (10) from the cartridge (6), by means of which one of the consumption means (10) can be transported out of one of the chambers (12) of the cartridge (6). The closed opening (13 , 14) is opened by the sealing film (17), and a drive enables the cartridge (6 ) to be displaced, said drive being used to position a chamber (12) in the receiving position wherein the consumption means (10) can be withdrawn from the chamber (12) by means of the receiving device (16). According to the invention, the hand-held analysis device (1) comprises an examination device (18) which can produce a signal containing information regarding whether the opening (13, 14) is closed by one of the chambers (12) by means of the seali ng film (17).
