Abstract: One or more loadable PN generators are controlled by a DSP or microprocessor in conjunction with a free-running counter which maintains a reference offset count. The PN generator will typically be part of a finger or searcher. Each PN generator is comprised of a loadable linear feedback shift register (LFSR) or its equivalent, a loadable counter for maintaining an index of the state of that particular PN generator, and a slew control device capable of receiving a slew command and controlling the LFSR and index counter to enact an advance or a retard of a certain offset distance. The speed increase is effected by DSP control. A table of LFSR states and corresponding index numbers are stored in memory. These LFSR states will subdivide the tot al possible number of possible states. It is advantageous to evenly space the stored states around the PN circle. The fast slewing is enabled by the DSP in two-step process. First the PN generator is loaded such that it "jumps" to the closest state using the table, then the P N generator's slew control is used to slew the rest of the way.

A register bank (120) may be used that has registers accessible by at least two processing units (128, 130). An instruction fetch unit (156) may be included that receives instructions of variable length stored in an instruction memory (152). The instruction memory (152) may be separate from the set of three data memories (102, 103, 104).

Abstract: Techniques for fabricating analog and digital circuits on separate dies and stacking and integrating the dies within a single package to form a mixed-signal IC that provides many benefits. In one aspect, the analog and digital circuits are implemented on two separate dies using possibly different IC processes suitable for these different types of circuits. The analog and digital dies are thereafter integrated (stacked) and encapsulated within the single package. Bonding pads are provided to interconnect the dies and to connect the dies to external pins. The bonding pads may be located and arranged in a manner to provide the required connectivity while minimizing the amount of die area required to implement the pads. In another aspect, the die-to-die connectivity may be tested in conjunction with a serial bus interface.

One embodiment comprises a method for performing position location in a wireless communication system using a set of signals transmitted from a set of satellites including the steps of receiving signal samples, rotating an acquisition code by a first rotation amount yielding a rotated acquisition code, despreading said signal samples using rotated acquisition code yielding despread data, accumulating said despread data over a first duration yielding partially accumulated data, rotating said partially accumulated data by a second rotation amount yielding rotated data and accumulating said rotated data.

A method for performing position location on a subscriber unit in a terrestrial wireless telephone system using a set of satellites each transmitting a signal, the terrestrial wireless telephone system having base stations (12), including t he steps of transmitting an aiding message from the base station (12) to the subscriber unit, said aiding message containing information regarding a data boundary for each signal from the set of satellites, applying correlation codes to each signal yielding corresponding correlation data and accumulatin g said correlation data over a first interval preceding a corresponding data boundary yielding a first accumulation result, and a second interval followi ng said corresponding data boundary yielding a second accumulation result.
