Abstract: PURPOSE: An inverter malfunction detection circuit for hybrid vehicles and a method thereof are provided to use a digital counter and timer, thereby determining inverter malfunction when an input signal exceeds the time corresponding to a noise margin of a sensor. CONSTITUTION: A comparator compares a critical value and sensor signal value inputted from sensors of an inverter. A high speed clock generation part(70) generates a high speed clock. A counter and timer(60) repetitively outputs high and low signals proportional to the output speed of the high speed clock. A CPU(30) outputs an PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) output signal. A PWM output buffer(40) blocks the transmission of the PWM output signal outputted from the CPU to a gate driver(50) side.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for detecting disconnection of a power cable of a motor is provided to clearly distinguish whether a high voltage is generated due to disconnection between power cables or disconnection between power elements. CONSTITUTION: An inverter(200) monitors a current per a phase supplied to a motor through a current sensor(300) to detect an excessive current. If the excessive current is detected, a power cable disconnection flag is set and the control of the inverter ends. If the excessive current is detected and the power cable disconnection flag is set, it is determined whether the current sensor has an error by monitoring the state of the current sensor. If it is determined whether the current sensor is normal, an increasing gradient of the current per a phase is detected and the detected increasing angle is compared with a set reference gradient.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for detecting the disconnection of a power cable of a motor is provided to prevent lethal damage by accurately detecting the disconnection of the power cable in the initial stages. CONSTITUTION: A controller detects current supplied to each phase of a motor according to the switching of an inverter. The controller detects the drive speed of a motor(S102), whether the drive speed exceeds the fixed reference speed or not is determined(S103). If the drive speed of the motor exceeds the fixed reference speed, whether the control current for motor drive exceeds the reference value of the maximum current or not is determined(S104). If the control current for the motor drive exceeds the reference value of the maximum current, the disconnection of the power cable connecting an inverter and a motor is activated(S105). Whether the phase current supplied to a motor is lower than the second reference value of the current reference or not is determined(S106). If the phase current exceeds the second reference value, the power cable is determined as the normal state.
