    Abstract: Porous solid members are provided that include, disposed on at least a portion of the internal surfaces of a plurality of channels thereof, a plurality of superhydrophobic particles. These particles inhibit ingress of water or other aqueous fluids into the internal spaces of the porous solid member, reducing the occurrence of corrosion, biological growth, or other unwanted effects of fluids present in the internal spaces. The porous solid member could be fabricated using 3D printing methods, e.g., the member could be a 3D printed aluminum or other metal(s). The plurality of superhydrophobic particles can be disposed on the internal surfaces of the channels within the porous solid member via a number of processes, e.g., by delivering the particles into the channels while disposed in a payload fluid that later evaporates.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying a faux wood grain finish to plastic architectural plastic boards. The method employs a climate-controlled area for denibbing of boards to prepare a surface and a sprayer to achieve a desired depth of color. A wiper spreads the sprayed on material to form a faux grain finish which may include faux wood knots. The boards are directed through a combination infrared and convection oven having independent curing zones providing specific drying profiles. Once cured, the boards are cooled with forced air cool down fans and transferred into a climate-controlled area for applying a topcoat. The topcoat board is passed through an oven set to a defined temperature for curing and cooled down with forced air cool down fans before packaging and shipping.

    Abstract: A coated film having good characteristics is manufactured. A method for manufacturing the coated film includes: (a) a step of applying a coating liquid 20a to a first surface of a base material 1 unwound from an unwinding unit UW; (b) a step of forming a coating layer 3b on the first surface of the base material 1 by drying the coating liquid (coating film 3a) on the base material 1; and (c) a step of winding the base material 1 on which the coating layer 3b has been formed in a winding unit WD. Also, the base material 1 is continuously arranged from the unwinding unit UW to the winding unit WD, tension cut of the base material 1 is performed by a first suction roll SR after the base material 1 is taken out from the unwinding unit UW and before the step (b), and tension cut of the base material 1 on which the coating layer 3b has been formed is performed by a second suction roll SR before the step (c).
