    Abstract: The disclosure features optical scramblers that can be used with spectrographs and other optical measurement systems, including Doppler-based radial velocity measurement systems and other precision spectroscopy. In one aspect, an optical scrambler includes a first fiber configured to receive measured light from an optical collection system, a second fiber configured to deliver the measured light to a detection system, and an optical coupling element positioned between a light output surface of the first fiber and a light input surface of the second fiber and configured to deliver the measured light from the first fiber to the second fiber. The coupling element defines an output focal position for the measured light that is delivered to the second fiber and the output focal position is located within 50 microns of an output surface of the coupling element.

    Abstract: A spectrometer includes: a tungsten lamp which emits light with no peak wavelength within a wavelength range of visible light and having a light amount increasing as the wavelength becomes longer; a violet LED which emits light having a peak wavelength within the wavelength range of visible light; a light mixer which mixes light emitted from the tungsten lamp and the violet LED; an etalon which receives light mixed by the light mixer and transmits light contained in the received mixed light and having a particular wavelength; a light receiving unit which receives light transmitted by the etalon; and a measurement control unit which changes the wavelength of light that can pass through the etalon and measures spectral characteristics of the light having passed through the etalon based on the light received by the light receiving unit.

    Abstract: A spectrophotometer optics system is provided. The spectrophotometer optics system includes an optical sensing array and an optical waveguide including an input side and an output side. The input side of the optical waveguide receives input light and the optical sensing array is located at the output side of optical waveguide. The optical waveguide is configured to carry light to be analyzed by total internal reflection to the output side of the optical waveguide and to direct the light to be analyzed toward the optical sensing array. The spectrophotometer optics system includes an optical dispersive element configured to separate the light to be analyzed into separate wavelength components, and the optical dispersive element is supported by the optical waveguide.

    Abstract: The present concept is a portable colour sensor for measuring colour of a substrate that includes a single flat printed circuit board with a top and bottom side which includes at least one LED light and one colour sensor and at least one light pipe receiving light from the LED and transmitting it onto a substrate at an angle theta. It also includes a tube frame including an optical tube for receiving light reflections from the substrate and directing the reflections to the colour sensor. The light pipes and the tube frame, are mounted and compression fit between the printed circuit board and a lower housing.

    Abstract: In one aspect, a spectrometer insert is provided. The spectrometer insert includes: an enclosed housing; a first transparent window on a first side of the enclosed housing; a second transparent window on a second side of the enclosed housing, wherein the first side and the second side are opposing sides of the enclosed housing; and a sample mounting and heating assembly positioned within an interior cavity of the enclosed housing in between, and in line of sight of, the first transparent window and the second transparent window. A method for using the spectrometer insert to locally heat a sample so as to measure temperature-dependent optical properties of the sample is also provided.
