Abstract: There is provided an article comprising at least a first surface having a first binder layer selected from at least one of linear resins and resins having low cross link densities, where the first binder layer has a first major surface opposite a second major surface; and a plurality of microspheres at least partially embedded in the first major surface of the first binder layer. For at least a portion of the first major surface, the plurality of micro spheres may cover 30% to 50% of that portion, and the microspheres may be substantially uniformly spaced.

Abstract: A system and a method for providing a film having a matte finish. The system includes means for providing a coated substrate, the coated substrate comprising a first coatable material applied to a substrate, the coatable material forming a first major surface of the coated substrate; means for changing the viscosity of the first coatable material from a first viscosity to a second viscosity; a face-side roller having an outer surface positioned to contact the first major surface of the coated substrate to impart a matte finish thereon; and optionally, means for hardening the first coatable material. The method of the invention includes the steps of (1) providing a coated substrate comprising a coatable material disposed on a substrate, the coatable material providing a first major surface of the coated substrate; (2) changing the viscosity of the coatable material from the initial viscosity to a second viscosity; (3) contacting the first major surface of the coated substrate with at least one face-side roller to impart a matte finish; and (4) optionally, hardening the coatable material to provide the film.

Abstract: The composition includes a polyorganosiloxane and an amino-functional silane. The polyorganosiloxane has divalent units represented by Formula (I) and greater than two —Si(Y)p(R)3-P groups, in which each R is a non-hydrolyzable group; each Y is a hydrolysable group; and p is 1, 2, or 3. The composition further includes an amino-functional silane represented by (R6)2N—[R4—Z]r—R4—[Si(Y)p(R5)3-P] or a cyclic azasilane of Formula (II). Each R4 is a linking group; each R5 is a non-hydrolyzable group; each Z is —O— or —N(R6)—; each R6 is hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, arylalkylenyl, or —R4—[Si(Y)p(R5)3-P]; R7 is a linking group that can have at least one catenated —N(R8)—; each R8 is hydrogen, alkyl, or alkenyl, which may be substituted by an amino group; each Y is a hydrolyzable group; r is 0, 1, 2, or 3; and p is 1, 2, or 3. A method of using the composition to make a coated article is also described.

Abstract: Transfer tapes and methods of making transfer tapes are described. In one aspect, the transfer tape comprises a template layer having a structured surface; a backfill layer disposed on at least a portion of the template layer, the backfill layer having a microstructured surface opposite the structured surface; and a layer disposed adjacent the microstructured surface, wherein the layer disposed adjacent the microstructured surface has a refractive index that differs from the backfill layer. The microstructured surface together with the adjacent layer functions as a diffusive layer, or in other words a diffusive interface. Also described are microoptical glazing and methods of making microoptical glazing as well as insulated glazing units and methods of making insulated glazing units.
