Abstract: A method is provided for manufacturing a panel. The method may involve supplying a substrate having an upper side. A layer may be provided onto the upper side. The upper side may be irradiated so as to cure at least a part of the layer by irradiation, hence forming the panel. The layer may include a liquid coating on substantially the entire upper side and a substance which is digitally printed locally on the upper side. The substance and the liquid coating may cooperate such that either (1) the coating and the substance react with each other, whereas the substance is a liquid that is printed on the upper side before the coating is applied and wherein the substance and the coating have different surface tensions, or (2) the coating is non-curable or only curable to a limited extent by the irradiation, whereas the substance makes the coating curable by the irradiation at locations where they meet each other.

Abstract: Disclosed is a transparent self-assembling polymer clay nanocomposite coating that is useful in food, drink and electronic packaging as a gas barrier and on textiles and clothing as a flame retardant coating. The coating includes two main components a water dispersible polymer and a sheet like nanoparticle. The coatings may be applied to any substrate. The coatings are applied sequentially with polymer being applied first followed by the nanoparticles. This sequence results in the self-assembly of a highly ordered nanocomposite film that exhibits high barrier properties and flame retardancy. The desired level of gas barrier or flame retardancy desired can be adjusted by the number of bilayers applied.

Abstract: A wood fiber composite with improved adhesion is made using the method described herein. The uncoated substrate is coated with a pretreatment, followed by coating of a sealer and a topcoat over the pretreatment. Preheating the substrate prior to pretreatment appears to increase adhesion.

Abstract: Slip-resistant laces for articles of dress, such as various types of footwear and clothing, and methods of making the same are provided. The slip-resistant laces include a first engagement portion and a second engagement portion. A silicone composition is applied to the first engagement portion and the second engagement portion by spraying the silicone composition from an aerosol can. A slip-resistant knot is formed by engaging the first engagement portion having the silicone composition with the second engagement portion having the silicone composition.

Abstract: In one aspect, the invention provides an implantable device comprising a uniform mixture of components including degradable polymer, inorganic bone particulate either natural or synthetic, a drug, and a soluble microporagen. In some embodiments, the uniform mixture further includes a soluble polymer macroporagen. In some embodiments, the uniform mixture is coated with an immobilized outer porous layer comprising or consisting of synthetic or natural inorganic bone granules. In further aspects, the invention provides an implantable device comprising a composite core of degradable polymer, bone, and a drug, and a coating comprising or consisting of microporous bone overlayer covering the degradable composite core.
